She loved him more than anything, so how could he do this to her? To their family. To their children so young they hadn't even had a chance to know his face.

The rebellion had happened so quickly Ivy didn't even know how to react. Disagreeing with the new leadership was one thing, but to support a traitor—no, a murderer—to the point of launching an attack... and for what? Myka had a family, damnit! What did he have to prove by rebelling and landing himself in the Cage? Not a thing, at least not in Ivy's mind. She cursed herself silently for even defending him. Her demotion was her own damn fault, and she would own it. But Myka was her mate. What else was she supposed to do when their fellow Kestrels attacked him? Damn that instinct. Damn it all.

When things finally settled Ivy stalked towards the Cage which now imprisoned the one she loved. Her face bare of paint, too ashamed to apply the Fledgling marks she worked so hard never to wear again, she flashed a snarl at him. Yet, despite the rage, she still felt love. And sadness. And confusion. She swore her loyalty to her pack but also to him. Yet look what he did to them, and what they did to him. Everything seemed so broken in that moment. The look of shame on Myka's face as he looked out to her only shattered Ivy's heart even further. She walked away before he could see the tears begin to flow.

Nothing would ever be the same.
