Description         For the concept of our spoof Rill-E, the biggest challenge was how we make one emotional human girl into a trash loving robot inspired by the works of Andrew Stanton and Pete Docter from Pixar. The idea came around the 2010s after the release of Inside Out, and for a story based on the girl of Inside Out, we wanted to explore this girl and her personiality explored from the film. How emotional she can be and how strange she can be.

Building the girl from Inside Out as a humanoid Android was a complex challenge to create a spoof inspired by Pixar’s Wall-E. It’s one of our most highly favorite films and making a girl as our Wall-E was no easy task. Every detail has to make her look like she’s build for this job but at the same time give her human emotion on how she feels about it and why she wants to be human. We wanted to focus around her torso to make it feel like she's built inspired from Ghost in the Shell and Alita: Battle Angel, to add some Wall-E freatures around her while making the rest of her body the same as she was from Inside Out. Rill-E now stands for Robotic Intellengt Lifeform Loader - Earth Class. Which makes her stand out of the robots being the only android with an emotional software based on her emotions. Riley’s emotions are the same as the original film. Joy, Sadness, Anger, Disgust, and Fear. In Inside Out, it only focused what’s inside her mind. For Rill-E, we wanted to explore deeper from this character rather than focusing on her emotions. Her emotions do appear in the film but as the Axiom robots you see based on Wall-E.

For the remake of Rill-E, one of the things that need to be added was how she was made. Our take will show her parents designed her to be the first android girl with a human emotion compasser... til BNL decided to against their will to make her as a trash bot. Sick of her job, Miguel finds her and starts a weird bond between human and machine and eventually becomes what she was made for. A lot of freatures are made to design this robot girl into what we hoped to be a fun and weird idea that fits for all of us. Her arm is equipped with a recorder to record her songs and listen to them while she’s hardly working. Unlike the original, her Motherboard is within her mind like Inside Out as that’s how all her systems are controlled by. Under her chest, she’s equipped with the latest solar panels to recharge her energy. Super-high-efficiency solar panels unfold from the top of his chest and recharge the batteries contained adjacent to her control system.

To carry her stuff around like Wall-E, her school backpack from Inside Out works as her own ice cooler, carrying all the relics she can find. Knowing she wants to learn how to be a human, Riley’s AI evolves much differently around characters like M3gan, Chucky, Johnny 5, or any robotic creature like Wall-E to build not only her personality, but also what it means to be alive. However, for how she makes the cubes, we wanted to see how an android does Wall-E’s job differently. When she finds some scratch, her stomach becomes a compartment for storing her trash and compacting it into the cubes we know of. When making the cubes in her stomach, we wanted joke around her butt and show how the cubes come out of. When taking a Trash cube dump, Riley does like a human does at the toilet. In her stomach, powerful hydraulic presses on her back operate her compactor function, compressing trash in her body cavity into neat cubes that can be easily stacked and carted away. Since people think it count as Scat, she’s only just a robot. We don’t wanna get too fetish with her but to maintain the humor and heart from Pixar and put a twist on their style to not only joke around but to pay homage to their works and their dynamic on machines.

Another thing about this is that we finally got to use a pixar character for her to keep by. If you don't remember, we made a short inspired by Disgust and a character from The Good Dinosaur named Spot. A small feral caveboy who acts like man's best friends. For our take on him, we wanted to tone down the sex stuff around him and focus Spot as her emotional companion inspired by Perrito from Puss in Boots: The Last Wish. He may disgust her at first but keeps him around and avoid getting him into trouble. We originally wanted Antonio from Disney’s Encanto to be with her in th remake but the idea of Spot being her companion makes more sense and lore to the world inspired by Wall-E and Pixar. Plus, he loves to ride her in her backpack, so it makes it easy for us to have Spot come with her wherever she goes.

Making an robotic design for Riley inspired by Pixar's Wall-E was a complicated and fun task to discover beyond the worlds of Pixar. And we hope for people who love Inside Out and Wall-E would like this as much as we do from B-Master and KirbyStar. Happy 8th anniversity to Inside Out!
