Description "Botan" means peony in Japanese and is a symbol of good fortune. "Mankei neko" is Japan's famous beckoning cat that brings good fortune and wealth. I meant to do a less traditional maneki neko, and the painting as a whole is a good luck talisman. The number 4 is considered unlucky in Asian cultures, so I often try to work groups of four into my paintings because I don't believe in this superstition. To be safe though there are more than four objects in this painting. I included the bee to remind people that wealth comes as much from hard work as from luck.

ACEO size - Acrylic (Golden fluids) and ink on Arches 140 lb. paper.
