Description
My latest steampunk creation the I-Poise. A cross between an ipad stand and an angle poised lamp.It has taken 20 hours to hand craft from aluminium, brass and hyedua wood from start to finish. It not only holds the ipad securely but also charges from the mains or can be connected to a computer with the 1.5m cable leading from the back. The stand features an adjustable arm which moves up, down and forwards and backwards. The whole arm can be rotated 360 degrees and the dock itself rotated between landscape and portrait. I installed weights in the base of the stand to ensure it does not tip when the arm is extended even with the heaviest of ipads. I have added springs to the joints to ensure stability and to secure wires for the dock.
I have made this stand in a modular fashion so that it can be taken apart with an Hex/Allen key for transport, to replace parts and also to modify it in case of a tablet pc upgrade.
It is not yet up for sale but when available will be listed on my etsy shop([link] )

Steampunk things of this sort are all very interesting and unusual, but most of the time I can't help but feel that they're just an ordinary item with a few brass tubes glued on.
This, however, actually looks like an interesting idea. I've seen stands for iPads in shops (mostly just for the one on display), but never anything that could be adjusted in this way. Plus, since each piece apparently has a purpose, it doesn't look too ostentatious. It's just sort of elegant, in its own way.
Roughly how long would this take to unscrew and put back together? I'm wondering whether this is a "take it to a friend's house for the weekend" situation or more of a "I'm actually moving house and need to pack this up small" sort of thing.

Thank you for your comments. I felt there was something lacking in the ipad stand field. Most of the current models available simply hold your ipad, only a few actually charge the device, even less rotate to enable video applications and none that have adjustable arms. Added to the fact that most of the designs I find look out of place in a more traditional home that doesn't resemble something out of an IKEA catalogue.
The stand can be split into 4 parts: dock, arm, base and legs. It only takes 5 minutes to unscrew and another 5 to put back together. It's handy for taking it to show people but not something I'd carry round with me on a regular basis, mainly due to the weight.
