In this scene, James Hook (as Ebenezer Scrooge) sees the his name on the neglected grave and finally realizes that it was him who was the dead man who lay upon the bed and that he's the one that everybody is happy that he's gone. This leaves him in devastation and begging for mercy and that he's not who he once was anymore.
