Description

Okay! Another "How They Met" their Pokemon! This one is Aizawa and his main partner, Umbreon (AKA Kokei). We'll start with him meeting and obtaining the Umbreon (who was an Eevee at the time). This was when Aizawa was young and going to UA as a student. I might make this one two parts, possibly three, instead of how many the one for All Might was. Later, we'll get to the evolution of Kokei. Maybe four parts... Not sure yet.

It was winter and they were nearing the holiday break. This winter was quickly proving itself to be one of the coldest they had seen so far. On his way to school that icy morning, Aizawa decided to take a longer route. He was often late to homeroom, so he wasn't sure why he was bothering to go this way, but hell.

He passed through a dark alleyway that the awakening sun had not reached yet and felt the chill through his coat. It wouldn't be so bad if there wasn't a breeze, he thought to himself. After reaching the other end, he turned right and found himself walking along a more open area. Up ahead, he could see what appeared to be a small playground for children. He stopped upon noticing something curled up at the entrance.

There was an Eevee tied to the bicycle parking rack by a very taut leash. Hanging from the center of the leash was what appeared to be a folded note or letter of some kind that flapped in the breeze.

He glanced around, but there wasn't another soul in sight besides him and the Eevee. The playground was cold and empty, and he was the only pedestrian along this street. The Eevee lifted its head a little to look up at him. It looked tired. Was it abandoned? No, he thought as he spotted the note tied to the leash. That's probably a note saying they'll be back any minute. He was going to be later for school than usual. The teacher would surely get on him now.

With some hesitation, Aizawa continued past the Eevee and made his way towards school.

The Eevee turned its head to watch the boy walk away, staring drowsily after him until he turned a corner and was no longer in sight.

"Yo, Aizawa!" Yamada prodded him in the head with a finger. "What were you late today for? You don't normally sleep THIS late!"

"Stop poking me," he grumbled. "You're irritating."

  "Ha!"

"Yamada, sit down!" the teacher shouted and the boy was immediately in his seat. "Hmph. Now, as I was saying... Today marks the first day of another Pokemon battle week. If you're going to be a hero who has Pokemon fight alongside you, then you need to train not only yourselves, but your Pokemon too. Nearly every hero out there has at least one Pokemon, especially since nearly all of the villains do too. Pokemon are amazing partners, and finding Pokemon that match your personal abilities and quirks can help you immensely when things get rough. This week will be all about pitting Pokemon against each other. It's important that you and your Pokemon can work together, and classic battles help trainers and their Pokemon bond and understand each other better. Alright, let's get ready and head out to the training grounds."

Aizawa was the only student in his class to not have any Pokemon, so he always sat these types of lessons out. While waiting for his turn, Oboro, Aizawa's friend, went to join him on the sidelines.

"Hey, Shota! You still haven't gotten a Pokemon yet? It's not hard to just go out and catch one you know."

  Aizawa grunted.

Oboro leaned back and scratched the chin of the little Swablu sitting on his shoulder. "But I guess you have to find the best partner. It can't just be any old Pokemon, huh? Isn't that right, Whimsy?"

  "Bluuu," the Swablu sang happily.

"Raising a Pokemon is a lot of responsibility," Aizawa said suddenly. "Don't you remember? I couldn't even get myself to take responsibility for that abandoned kitten that one time..."

"Aw, but Pokemon are easier because they're super smart! Besides, if you get a Pokemon, you won't live alone anymore."

Aizawa did not respond, but he found himself wondering about that Eevee at the playground. For the rest of the day, it was all he could think about. So, on his way home, he retraced his path back towards the playground.

Snow was falling now, and had quickly managed to coat everything in a fine white blanket. Laying curled up tightly in the same place was the Eevee, its brown fur flecked with snow. As he approached, it did not move. He stared down at it for a long moment before finally reaching out and taking the note attached to the leash.

It read, "To whoever finds this useless runt... Eevee's are well sought-after Pokemon for their appearance and versatility, but of course I had to be the one to end up with a stubborn, useless, little runt that doesn't listen to me! I'll leave him here and assume some kid will pick him up to keep as a pet. Have fun with him."

Aizawa stared at the note, reading it over a few times. "Why wouldn't they just have traded or properly released it?" He crumpled the note up and placed it in his pocket before crouching down to examine the Eevee.

Its eyes were shut and it was curled up tightly against the cold, but it did not try to look up at him. Its ears didn't even twitch when he spoke. He noticed the Eevee was breathing heavily. When he went to touch it, he realized that the creature had a terrible fever. The leash was also far too tight and restricted its breathing greatly. Suddenly very annoyed (mostly with himself), Aizawa pulled out a pocket knife, cut the leash, then scooped up the Eevee into his arms and hurried away.
