Vengeance-class was the very first type of destroyers to enter service within the Imperial Navy. The "Vengeance" Destroyer, which gave the class its name, was created at the height of the War of Greed and participated in the final attack on the main stronghold of the Corporate Alliance. Demonstrating excellent fighting qualities, this class became one of the most mass-produced vessels in the Empire. Of course, over time, other modifications of the destroyers appeared, as well as larger and more powerful warships, but the versatility of the Vengeance still guarantees it a place in the Imperial fleet to this day.
Destroyers are the backbone of the Imperial Navy, being the main strike force of its space battlegroups. Possessing powerful weapons and decent armor, Destroyers are able to engage in combat with several enemy ships or concentrate fire on one target and successfully destroy much larger ships and stations.
However, it is most effective to use them as part of a fireteam, because for all their merits, Destroyers are not indestructible. Without support from other ships, they can easily be overwhelmed. Pirates often cut off the destroyer from it`s escorts and attacked it from all sides, using nimble, maneuverable corvettes. Also, an enemy capital ship may well defeat the destroyer if it attacks it in the blind zone of the main gun (namely anywhere except the front). Therefore, one of the most quoted lines of the updated Charter of the Imperial Space Forces is: : "Every commander knows that the Destroyer is the key to victory. But only a wise commander understands that this key will immediately break if you try to open the wrong door. Use that key wisely and you will never fail"
