Description

Brooke, often going by the street name of Split Point, is an elf that lives between two worlds. Born in Tir Tairngire in 2065 to her elf mother and human father, her parents got divorced in 2069, with her father moving to Seattle to take up work for Ares Macrotechnology. Since her mother wanted her to have a proper elf life, even if she was a mixed breed, she was often used as a pawn in their bitter divorce proceedings. For a while, she spent most of her time with her mom until one day her mom got with the wrong guy and she ended up strangled to death when he took a dose of some drug, beating Brooke half to death in his rampage. Despite this, she was forced to stay with her grandparents most of the time, as they were "proper" elves and thus had higher standing than some human foreigner. That changed when Brooke turned 13 and she was able to say in court she wanted to stay with her dad more. In response, her grandmother slapped her in the face right there in the courtroom and said they no longer wanted anything to do with her.

Things didn't really improve for her in Seattle. While her dad did at least care for her, he had remarried a woman named Patricia and she was not happy that Brooke was the product of a previous marriage, nor the fact she was an elf. Numerous times, Patricia abused Brooke, even going so far as to once try to take a pair of scissors and snip the tips off her ears. If her dad wasn't there, Brooke and Patricia fought like wildcats, and at 17 Brooke packed a duffel bag and basically left, leaving her dad a text message saying she would not be back as long as Patricia lived there. That was two years ago and other than a few texts from her dad asking if she was ok, Brooke has remained true to her word. She meets him at a cafe once a year for Christmas, where they get coffee and he gives her some nuyen as a Christmas present, though it's not much since "Patricia would get upset". Brooke doesn't fight it, she just takes it, gives him a hug, and then disappears again.

Life on the street was brutal for her. With nothing but a few changes of clothes, She was able to avoid the downward spiral of drugs and prostitution, but barely. She did sometimes have to perform oral sex on people to get some cash or food, but she managed to hook up with a man named Earl Crump, a veteran of the UCAS who had lost a leg and was dying of cancer. The two sat and talked, got to know each other, and she ended up staying with him for a few months. They never slept together, Earl just wanted someone to be with him in the end. Brooke was there the night he died, holding his hand as he finally slipped away. It's for this reason she wears his old army jacket everywhere, even if it's slowly falling apart. It's the one part of him she holds onto. Earl got processed by Organ Grinders and his body incinerated, and she keeps some of his ashes in a vial in her apartment in her bug out bag in case she needs to leave quickly, she'll have that part of him as well.

While living with Earl, she got in contact with a runner team who took a chance on her. She did a decent enough job that they took her on more runs, where she proved a decent shot and a decent face, two qualities that along with her background earned her the name Split Point due to her split backgrounds. She didn't argue, she just was there when they met Mauricio Perez, the fixer who gave them a shot at the Market. He liked enough of what he saw to put their names forward. Unfortunately, Brooke ended up the only survivor after a run went south, barely escaping with her life and winding up in a street doc clinic where she was patched back up and told to lay low. With nothing else going for her, she accepted the invite into the Market as the only survivor of her team.

At present, she managed to snag a job as an Ares customer support representative, where she answers calls part time. She's not sure if it was her old Ares SIN or her dad's presence in the company, but she has decided to cash in on it, at least a little. It helps pay the bills until she's sure her work with the Market pans out, since she's not willing to risk it all on something like that just yet.
