No one on Earth knew the Probe existed. It floated high above, appearing as just another satellite in the ever-growing cloud of metallic objects in Earth's orbit. But, while we were unaware of it, it was certainly aware of us. It cataloged the numerous transmissions that spilled from our atmosphere, deciphering the major languages of the world in mere hours, the others over the next few days. And from there, it made determinations. Relative power, relative disposition, alliances, rivalries, population centers, all of it. And then? It simply left. It disappeared as silently as it had arrived, disappearing off a radar and being flagged as unusual, but not worth pursuing. What it was doing there, and what it had learned... that would all come in due time.
