Recently I've been sitting down and replaying the Sonic games (all the ones I only ever played once, anyway.) It's something I've wanted to do for a while but after watching the Sonic 2 Movie (it's AWESOME btw go watch it asap if you can!) it just broke me and I had to dive head first back into Sonic. Of course I started with the Genesis games cause it's been like 10 years since I last played them (yikes). Long story short this was my first time getting all the emeralds in the original trilogy and my first time ever beating Sonic 3 & Knuckles (got the Super Emeralds too!) And I totally fell in love with it and discovered a huge newfound appreciation for it. It was always my favorite of the Genesis games but I didn't realize just how awesome it is. Long story short, I prefer the 3D Sonic games, they're more my style. But Sonic 3 is such a natural stepping stone towards what Adventure became that it's honestly so cool to look back at it now and see how that game genuinely influenced and set the stage for what would become some of my favorite games ever (cutscenes, multiple characters, big cinematic finales, crazy super sonic final bosses, and even to an extent alternate story lines all get their start from this game. Not from Adventure like I had previously thought)
Anyway I know people might think I'm a crazy person for this but I still think the Sonic 3 sprite is my favorite of the Genesis ones. Idk why there's just something so cool about the way he looks. I love him.
