What did they feed him ? Good genes ? Working out ?

Just check out his fat musclebound neck and strapping rump, in comparison to his male herd members in the background he´s really a Goliath !

Scared at first time being confrontated with "a beeaaarrr !!!" he quickly recognized that Boog is an easy to handle victim to humiliate.

So here you see that perfect roasting the once civilized ursine, towering over him, posing impressive with a sarcastic smile making fun of his first outdoors experiences tellings.

Ian will change his attitude during the movie as he will asking him for "Open season" shelter later on.

But in my opinion that jumbo mule deer buck had it´s best and most attractive moments when being the strong and arrogant leader of his herd.
