In 1940,OSS spies working in Germany discover blueprints to the Jumo 004A gas turbine engine,with these secret plans for a new type of propulsion for aircraft,the spies with help from some Germans who were opposed to the Reich,assist in getting the spies and info back to the United States. In 1942,Grumman Aircraft and Pratt and Whitney with generous assistance from GE develop an advanced version of the Jumo engine. By modifying a Hellcat fighter to house the new top secret power plant. The first test were run in Oct. of 42. with more alterations done to the prototype aircraft was dubbed the Firecat. Equipped with 2 50cal. machine guns,and slight sweep to the wings of 20 degrees,the plane was an advancement in the war. But,other factors developed in Japan in 1943,and that's another story.
