Description
Well I spent about 3 hours on the Narnia movie website this morning watching and rewatching all their clips on the making of The Lion, The Witch and the Wardrobe and just tinkering about on the site. I am truly excited about the film and it just made me really hungry to draw Aslan. I adore the broody/moody colors used on the website and in a lot of posters/concept images for the film so I was definetly inspired by what I saw and thus my chosen colors. The idea is Aslan simply guarding Narnia and even in frigid frozen tundraw under the White Witch's rule he will bring light and life in his passing. This is also dedicated to all the people I know that have been facing some very difficult life situations. Even in the darkest hour there is hope.
All right I shall stop being sappy now.
Technical details...really it is a quick unplanned speed painting. I should have probably taken more time to develop the concept and work on perspective and design etc but honestly I just wanted to paint. I didn't want to take anything serious or make it perfect and flawless (and flaws abound there are!). I just needed to paint..thats all.
Tools: ps 7 simple brushes
Time: err really don't know..I multitasked so probably 3-5 hours
Size: 3100x4500 pixels (started smaller though as I didnt expect it to go anywhere)
Prints: yes, larger prints available through me if there is interest.
Critique: serious ideas are welcome but since this is a quick piece I am unlikely to work on it again. However I welcome suggestions for future pieces.

Hehe, I saw yesterday a trailer of this film and I almost started to draw a picture of the movie, too. But this is hundred times better than my if I had decided to draw it. ^^

Awrrs, Aslan looks so regal, and he's beautifully drawn. Have you ever thought of drawing ligers, my environmental issues teacher showed us a number of Liger pictures, I think you'd have fun with that

I think you may know...Aslan's legs are a little short. *L* Especially hind legs.
But the color, the light and shade and the feeling are really great! Good job!

Heh, first glimpse of this and I was like Narnia?! all hopeful-like. Thank you for brightening my night. Aslan looks great, and the background is none too shabby either. I really like the lighting, and the "painting" feel to it.

I just finished reading the book to my 7 year old (bedtime stories every night!) It was the first time *I* had read it, too! It's fantastic, I can't wait to see the movie. I just showed him this painting and asked who he thinks it is... and he knew straight away. Not just ANY lion, it's Aslan...he says so
Balaa, I really love this. The colour is beautiful, and it has a nice flow to it.
I don't know why, but I love looking at 'speed paintings', they can be so surprisingly fresh. I'm really happy you posted this

*smiles and hugs your 7 year old* what a sweetie..that actually made my evening! I'm glad you read it to your son...I think its wonderful when kids get exposed to stories like this early on, just lets the imagination go wild!

LOL! I just tucked the little dude in for bed, but showed him your reply and some of your gallery first. He's impressed that you send him a hug, and I'm going to have to fav Bagheera on his request. He liked the Jungle Books, too

I can't wait for the movie This Friday, hopefully it will be showing here.
You nailed me right on the spot with this image Balaa, normally a lot of picks when I read the descrips don't nab me in my moods but this one did. Yes I am going through some difficult depressing times myself and when I read the descrip I was really happy that you did this not only out of interested in the character but for others out there.
