Description A commission for Tau/Nick long overdue. I hope you are not dissapointed with the end results, I rather tried at this one.

Now a little about the piece. Basically it is lion Tau receiving lessons from Timon on how to be scary/intimidating looking. "Put some UMPF in it!!!! Like this!" and so Timon illustrates . I am happy with the way the log turned out and the simplicity of the evening sky. For those who are avvid fans of Timon, my apologies..I fear I butchered the little guy with my drawing! Nonetheless I hope you tlk folks enjoy this picture .

I love the lion, he's so original, I could honestly see another movie with him as the main character. You draw TLK style really well, and I love Tau's expression.

Omg I think you did great <3 I love Timon x3 And I just realized I've been spelling his name wrong. Sad, that - I also spelled Pumbaa's name wrong for the longest time, and also thought Shenzi was a guy for ages. Wtf, self.

What the? Well slam me down and shoot me!

When I first saw the thumbnail of this while browsing your gallery (although I could comment on them all Im just too lazy ) I was like "HOLY FRICKIN-*click* *click* LOAD STUPID COMP *click click click click*, I just HAD to see it. This looks like a screenshot from a movie, and you've captured it beautifully.

The reflection off the log in the water is stunning, it's perfect, you really know how to do that! :3 And they way you blurred the grass to focus on the main point I gotta quit rubbing my eyes like that >_>;.... And you, are like, a paw MASTER! Geez, the paws look so totally awesomely.... awesome! I cannot draw TLK-like paws... ugh. I can see how this 'Tau' can blend into his natural surroundings with his 'camoflauge'.

Also, I can always see Timon trying to do that, it just fits him best. You've understood his personality so well! Tau looks so like 'Okay, okay I get it' Ha ha ^_^ This blends in together so frickin well!!! Geez. It's like, an angel made this. ;___;

Lighting and Shading: A full five. ^_^

You're my god. Hehe

Sweetly,
SnowTigerCub

I can really see Timon doing this, with his experience as a foster father, with Simbas children, and probably getting the heck scared out of him when they try what they learned on him unknowingly. I expect Tau to do the same. I'd Really like to see a picture of that.
Timone with his ears lowered looking at Tau while he's roaring in his face, LOL.

*lol* Knowing the sentiment behind this one... it's the sort of story I might come up with. Anyway, I've told you before how awesome I think you are when it comes to TLK style animation, back drops and characters.

Your work could be the next movie as far as I'm concerned. Here, Timon looks a little flat, but as you spend more time doing the lions it's not a bad thing. Tau is great. Cool expression although it looks to me as if he should be looking back farther... would have captured the moment even better.

As it is, it's a very good picture. *s*

Well done for the poster.

However:
You may want to lessen the amounts of oranges, although the sunset and the sky are both gorgeous.
The lion's right (his right) hind paw is off angle for the pose. Maybe placing it on the log instead of the air would help fix the mistake?

It's amazing Balaa !!!
Pau is very beautifull... Nothing to say on him execpt PERFECT !!!
Timon's pose is very good and expressive. His head and is rigth arm are wonderfull. The only thing I could say is that, if I look at him during a very long time, his left arm and leg look a little strange.
I adore your style and the ability you have to draw all new characters in exactly the same style as Lion King. Same style, but very differents from the existing Lion King characters !!!

Oh cool thanks!

Well lets see. o_o I don't know how to explain this but, I'm doing a little project now for myself and I'm having a bit of difficulty on doing a decently texturized background. Specifically its a part of Pride Rock from TLK. I have my colors down, but how would should I use different brushes and stuff? Opacity? ect. I've been testing stuff but it just doesnt come out well.

I been looking around the default brushes in Photoshop and haven't found anything useful yet. I've made my own brushes before for realistic hair and stuff before but I find it difficult to make a texturized 'rock' brush.

Also I have never really brushed my own clouds before. So ick...

Any tips?

Thanks!

K lemme see if I can help any. The way I do my backgrounds is probably a slow process but in the longrun it seems to suit me well. I am not sure if you ever use paint shop pro but for grass thats a good bet. You can get some good free grass tubes around the net. I would suggest using freetubes.com, it has some good foligae/tree/grass tubes for psp. If you dont have psp go to [link] and dl a free full version 30 day trial and see what ya think, the program runs pretty cheap...definetly compared to photoshop(YEESH!). Okee dokee now a little about my process. What I tend to do first is start with a sky layer...and for that I usually do a gradient or a flat color..ie a gradient like faded yellow to a rich sky blue...Just observe skies and their colors and go from that or use your imagination and try stuff out. Next I put down the ground/rock layer...ie the dirt or rock, whichever. Now for these I dont really have any special tools or brushes. What I do is put down a base color in the desired shape for the rock or ground and then lock the transparency. Then I take a large round brush, rather soft edged and choose a color darker than the base color but from the same color pallette. Then I go around and just add depth to the ground or rock. What I suggest HIGHLY for your first attempt is to look at either my art or original tlk backgrounds and sorta mimic one just to get the idea of how they did it. Experimenting is the only way to truly learn and figure out what methods YOU are comfortable with using. Anyway back to what I was saying. After you have some darker spots, not too much darker..you can smear them around as you see fit or just leave them. Now say you wanna do a cracked ground effect. Takle a small round harder brush with opacity set lower and even a darker color and go around drawing a basic cracked texture(get some photo references if you need) Dont be afraid of how it looks yet, it will be ok once its all done . Ok now take an even smaller round hard brush, 3-5 points and make more detail in each cracked area. Now choose a lightsource..which direction is your light coming from? Based on this take your base color and go much lighter. With a larger soft brush and opacity set to oh 20 or so go and add highlights to each crack. Im sure this sounds all very vague but its hard to explain how its done O_O.

As for clouds, they have their own layer and again Id suggest starting to work from photo reference. I found a good cloud tutorial somewhere so ill give ya a link once I find it.

On top of the ground layer I add grass and then usually add a layer beneath the grass for shadows. Once I have one grass layer I want to add depth to the grass so I add more layers of grass beneath the original layer and make them smaller and smaller and blur each layer of grass more than the one before for a feel of distance. Now I also make each layer that goes further into the distance slightly darker by adjusting its brightness.

OH and if you wanna do a picture of pride rock just go and grab some screenshots of it and steal the colors from it with the little dropper . VERY useful little tool there .

Ummm well I dont know how much I helped but hopefully at least some...Any other questions, feel free to ask..and if you like I can try sending you a psp or psd file so you can see how I do my layers...but be warned they can be quite large files!

With sincerity,

~Ana
