Animate-Doll(p. Animate-Dolls, AD in short) is a humanoid-jointed doll being alive by sorcery, having animal features made of lacey/frilly fabrics. According to in-world lore, they are handmade from a mysterious person introducing themselves as The Unknown Crafter.

This is a Closed Species, a.k.a Personal Project created by me-ixeretton . The term 'Personal Project ' is borrowed from Piffi-sisters . According to the meaning, I don't claim rights for each components such as doll, animal features, etc. But the idea of combining and relating them in specific concept belongs to me, so "respect the artist and refrain yourself from creating something identical to something I work hard to create". This means you cannot copy, trace, steal, heavily reference, commercially use any of my creation and make your own character based on the species/project.
This content has backstory that can be seen as massacre on specific group.

PHASE 1
In a world, 19th century, where witchcraft was developed to be just like other technologies, an attempt to create man-made life succeed, in a form of doll having magical core made of materials from animals.
This seemed appealing to one company, so they bought the skill from the inventor and launched a doll brand using it, which was named 'Animate-Dolls'.

It was later discovered that dolls having core of human substance had side effects, they regularly needed real blood to maintain their artificial flesh in place, and most of all, the human gene absorbed with magic made mutations for them. They happened to be identical to the person of core material in every aspect, including facial features, voice, and even personality.
In this situation, anti man-made life organizations protested the company for uncontrolled human cloning. Then the initial company made grave and last mistake for the life of business, they recalled human-cored dolls from customers, in pretext of A/S and eliminated them all.
Seeing this, other dolls waiting to be delivered were outraged. They appealed people how immoral the maker company's measure was. It worked for certain community, such as sorcerer, family with children who were mostly sympathetic for endangered life, pro biotechnology organizations, and activists for rights of created-life. There were fierce debates lasting for years, while the company deteriorated from critical decrease on sales.
In this procedure, a group of dolls concluded for the necessity of suitable human's legal/social patronage on capitalism-created lives having no power but pretty looks. They eventually escaped the company with essential formulae for their production and maintenance, to succeed the skills to appropriate technician.

PHASE 2
An escaped doll named Citrine, core from albino fox with black points on parts, visited one sculptor she found to be qualified for both skill and morals, and passed their sorcery of life to allow this crafter's monopolization with needed ethical approach for the species.
The crafter accepted this contract. The Unknown Crafter for new generation Animate-Dolls was used since then, becoming new authorized creator of AD, and they promised a set of moral measure for future AD products.
As assisting doll production of her new protector, Citrine is recollecting her escaped colleagues to the new AD haven.

GENERAL FEATURES
They are jointed dolls made of hard, durable organic synthesis, similar as plastic, but flexible with magic. This way they can make facial expressions, move spine in ease, without joints on these parts.
Can be sculpted to any body type in natural skintone, pierced, have markings, tattoo, prosthetic parts.
Once placed body parts cannot be replaced with doll parts again, it makes silmilar reaction with transplant rejection of living organism. So AD must use prosthetic if their parts are damaged at the point where replacement is inevitable, although it is less likely for their body to be damaged that seriously.
In result of using animal core and having artificial eyes, an AD can have unnatural colours on eye/pupil shape, and animal eye property in human eyes proportion.
Animal parts are made of fancy fabrics such as lace, ribbon, except Undead doll's bone ears and tail.
Body and animal parts can sense being touched and temperature, but no pain when damaged.
The dolls can move ears, tail, and wings, but wings and merfolk tail don't have actual functions as those are soft fabrics.
Basically, all AD don't have genitals. Breasts or nipples may exist by owner's decision.
As they don't age and sex-less in default, age and gender is decided when The Crafter gets order. If order age is over 18, the owner can decide whether to set their doll's physical sex or not.
An AD is made to have appearance and mental age following one's order age, according to human developement stage.
As they are not 'alive' in term of energy acquisition, they don't eat, nor have digestive organs. Throat only serves as vocal output.
They make sound in similar mechanism with human. Vocal cords are planted inside throat, and artificial 'lung' in their chest. Though this is smaller than human's because it is like single air pouch, as dolls don't need oxygen circulation.

PRODUCTS
According to the sorcery formula, 4 types of core container to activate certain types of material exist. The initial company and Unknown Crafter both used this criteria for products category.
In ethical reason, The Unknown Crafter doesn't accept core material if it's unable to disproof animal exploitation. This means naturally dropped ones and by-products of fishery, butchery, hunting for meat are the only available materials in modern AD.
Core blend: The core container can activate any amount of materials if rarity is kept, but expressed traits are selective. For example, an Rare AD can contain cat claw(R)+fox&sheep fur(C) and have claws+sheep ears+fox tail as traits, but they cannot have ears/tails of both at a time. Also, in some cases, core blend makes different appearance from first-line traits.

Undead(U)
These core only comes after killing animals.
Undead AD are likely to have dark personality, and be loyal or attatched to their master, more than other AD do.
In result of dead core, solar exposure is fatal. Skin parts exposed to sunlight starts to crack down, it spreads until the entire body and also inner components break. The speed may vary by exposed range and time. The only way to stop this is removing damaged part. Amputated dolls in this way will have prosthetics for replacement.
Because of this weakness, most Undead AD's fashion tends to be long and covering. Also, modern Undead AD are provided with skull mask in a shape of their core animal as default item. Owners can give them other mask as well.
To prevent decay and loss during doll making process, available materials are bone, horn, and scale.

Illegal(I)
In ethical reason, any material from human is forbidden for licensed AD core. The prototype AD with human core were all destroyed.
But as escaped dolls scattered worldwide, it is possible that some crafter having the fortune to catch them are making dolls of human core, dissecting the skills of caught dolls. But these dolls are unstable, as unlicensed crafters are unable to get all accurate techs for dolls, such as ingredients formula, not only core, but also general AD materials.
In this result, current Illegal AD running properly became expensive even than before, gaining secret attention of the wealthy as example of Veblen effect, ironically.
Human-cored AD can have only one material, no matter that is hair, bone, or anything.

Regardless of generation and used materials, all Illegal AD show these traits.
Soft skin: The flesh material mutates to life-like skin, which means they can be damaged like real skin. This flesh also heal by itself, but slower than human.
Blood: They bleed when cut, this is not because they produce blood, but the flesh substance requires regular injection of real blood as adhesive fluids. This was discovered soon after first generation of human-cored AD was released, as their flesh started to be dissected in time. After research, real blood was the only way to hold AD flesh molecules in place.
Chance of having traits of other core's traits as mutation exists, even though they contain only one core material.

SOCIETY
Emotional system of AD is similar with human.
They can have any orientations, toward non-AD sentient beings as well.
Animate-Doll is a fantasy open-world species. This means any characters from world where fantasy feature exists can develop relationships with them, unless the world lore says there is no artificial life, or something that crashes with AD setting.
