Description
My buddy SlitherFin, with whom I actively chat in notes here, told me about this MerMay thing. I may not follow all rules, but I decided to make some mermaid concepts for this. Also I wanted to do this for a kinda long time, so here we go!(I kinda lost my creativity on faces.. Seal one is still cute tho.)
Number 1 is based on axolotl's fins and probably is a freshwater creature, like an actual axolotl.
Number 2 is based on a dolphin and it is an oceanic creature.
Number 3 is based off a seal and it lives in Arctic and Antarctic water.
Number 4 is a more classical mermaid. It probably lives in Pacific Ocean.
Number 5 is a seahorse and it probably lives near coral reefs.
I gave them, exepct seal one, fins in the behinning of their tals, beccause this is where legs evolved. Tail continues spine, legs become fins. This is how evolution works. We don't think that dog's tail is an another pair of legs that turned into into a tail, then why mermaids tail has to be like this? Well, there is a way for mermaid to have a "tail" thingy inatead of legs. And it is a seal mermaid. Seals have a skeleton structure that makes their legs look like a tail. Boom. And well... I'm sure that I completely messed up seahorse one, but I like how it came out. I just couldn't understand what the hell is seahorse's skeleton.
Also some of them have webby hands, because it would be more comfortable for them to swim.
I know that it is stupid for water creatures to have hair, but lets be honest, they look more beautiful with hair than without (also why hair on number 3 is similar to mine?).
And about favourites. In aestetic ways my fave is 4, her colors are just *chef's kiss*. Also her scales were fun to do. But in scientistic ways, my favourite ones are 2 and 3, because I personally think that mermaids are mammals and it would make sence for them being half people and half other mammals instead of fishes (+ seal one is cutie). I still like all versions and think all are beautiful in their own way.
Hope you like them!
