Thomas is a very hard worker and he manages to show that he is an E2 who still has his uses, no matter how old he is. He is also the star of the Thin Clergyman's books and the children's TV Show, Thomas & Friends, making him one of the most famous engines on Earth and he shows everyone that he's still Really Useful and he is also an engine who will never be withdrawn.
