Base Unit Organ post time! (I need to stop writing so small, uugh)
General info:
Both Tailed and tailless units share theses basic organs, and they also appear in the Ship and Waypoint classes of Lamp Life, though at much larger scales then seen here. The most important of these to a Lamp is it’s brain so much so that it’s not uncommon for the freer units of The Spectrum Ships, to Joke that their just metal brains piloting Meat Suits.
The Brain (Yellow):
The Brain of a Lamp is a Complex web of Circuit board like material that looks a lot like the human brain, they way is fully function is also just as much a mystery. As a Lamp Brain without power is completely different to a living system, that living system also changes as the Lamp ages. A freshly produce Brain (or a dead brain that power has been restored to) acts something like a Simple robot, it can do some straight forward tasks and run it’s body, but can’t preform anything that complex or flexible. As is goes and learn the Lamp will be able to do more and more flexible, complex tasks and will start having options and preferences. Usually by the time their 10 (Earth years roughly) they have the same complexity and intelligence as a Human, though pretty much all Lamps are better at understanding and using math. The Brain of a Lamp can only use Electricity to run, and if their batteries start running low they will cut power going to the body to survive a bit longer. The Brain itself does have a small internal battery used mostly for if the Brain is being pulled out of the body for repair or moved into a new body. It only has about 5mins of power and the Lamp is in a state of complete sensory deprivation, something not Lamp can deal with long. If this internal battery goes when outside the body, the Lamp dies even if power is restore the person the Lamp was is gone. That’s why it’s so heavily protected, floating in a Shock resistant liquid, it’s own cooling system and a Faraday cage like “bone” structure.
The Hydraulic System(Blue):
I Talked a bit about this is the Circulatory System post, but Here is a drawing of the “bone” itself, When pressure is not put into the Limb the muscle groups used to move the limb when extend, collapse the limb and hold it in place. They can also brace these muscles well putting pressure into the bone, to shot out the limb with a lot of force. Tailless units will often overheat if they put too much pressure into this system, as the liquid heats up in the pressure. Some of this Heat energy can be converted into electricity by usually not enough to stop a system overheating. This also means that cut one of the hydraulic lines in an extend limb is asking to get a face full of boiling hot someway poisonous liquid. This Liquid is normally water (blood) based in units that don’t need a lot of power, but is oil based in heavier tailed units that need the strength; as they can have a separated blood/hydraulic system. Their Muscle tissue is stronger by pound then a human but rarely put in amounts that make them much stronger then a person, it’s also blue! It’s the least picky of Lamp tissue power wise, running of fats, proteins, sugars or electricity.
Bones(Grey):
Lamp Bones are made, not grow, much like their Brains, Antenna and Light Arrays. They are much tougher then human bones being made of a complex 3d printed carbon fiber like material. This does mean that they can’t be healed by the lamp themselves and must be replaced or fixed externally. Do to their carbon content they look black and a bit shiny.
