Description
"...The other occupant, this time sitting across from me, was a young woman with pale blond hair. Her chin was held high as she regarded the bustle on the platform just visible from the window beside her, her expression stoic. I cannot deny that she was a very interesting specimen of beauty, but I carefully held myself in check, that I would not stare, lest I seem rude or naively awed.Soon the tracks where flowing fast beneath us, and the steady speed lulled me to a state of reverie wherein my eyes drank of my surroundings but my mind remained elsewhere. I noticed that the young lady held a watch in her hand, or rather, the watch dangled from her hand, for she had fallen asleep with her forehead against the glass. I had an urge to replace it upon her palm, seeing that its chain was not secured anywhere to prevent it from falling. But I had an a amount of modesty in me which allowed me to wait until I saw the contraption slip and only then reached forward to catch.
I saved it from encountering the wood paneled floor and sat up to discover that its owner was awake and was regarding me with renewed vigilance. βThank you, sir.β She muttered when it was restored to her lace-gloved hands. And then she proceeded to perusing me with the candidness that I had refrained from exhibiting myself. I began to feel quite warm at the ears, and adjusted my spectacles to hide my anxiety in the way she stared..."
~~~excerpt from 's Vitric Night - Chapter I. Count the Hours
A special entry to her Vitric Night contest. [link] ^__^
The very interesting specimen of beauty is of course, Qarinda Latradia Tinuviel, daughter of Delurianne and Qa(from the prequel Velvet Noose ). And the young lad with the spectacles is Altham Hover, son of Aethaniel Hover(also from the prequel). So this scene is basically the first ever meeting of the 2nd generation of the cast of Velvet Noose. ^__^
This started out as a fanart for Delru, but then Qarinda's face somehow worked right in to this particular scene... so there.
Although it's a pretty simple(and cute) scene, it's kinda hard to pull off the correct upward shot. I didn't want to change Qarin's position anymore, hence the weird angles. Altham should have been in front of her in the foreground(since they're sitting across each other in the train) but I shoved him off a bit to the right.
For you, as promised. ^_____^
You know what? You rock, and I'm going to this for that girl alone. And tomorrow, when I'm hopefully not half dead from sleep deprivation, I'll see about that story as well.
I'm not really a big manga fan nowadays but your take in the genre is very cool and distinctive.
Keep it up!
Thank you! I don't really see my style as straightforward manga, but there are some details here and there that I like to mix up with the western style that give it a sort of manga-ish look. ^__^
Glad you liked it!
The eyes, small lips and nose have that manga element, but just a touch. Enough though to establish it's pedigree.
Hmmm... I think I went through a similar process. Would love to see this style evolve further.
Excellent line art here. I like the mesh between anime and conventional american comic book style. Nice hybrid. Alot of artists try too hard toward the same anime thing and it ends up looking imitative. Your's is not. Bravo.
Thank you very much. Well, I started out with a very poor rip-off of Akira Toriyama, and it really was frustrating to copy someone's style and still not get it right.
And I was unable to capture any genuine expression, so probably it was that goal helped me to come up with the current style. ^____^
Thanks again!
This artwork is simply amazing. The inking makes a perfect balance between manga and realistic style, and reminds me a bit of the latest Katsura's works. The scene is very heart-warming and lovely as you said, and it's nice to see that you put so much love and care in your works - especially because this one here is dedicated to someone else.
A very deserved !
Thank you for that wonderful comment. They're not inked though, just darkened pencils.
I try to put in the same amount of effort whether it's a quick sketch or a full illo, because I want to make the viewer to experience the same feeling I get from each piece.
And for , well, she deserves nothing less. =^_^=
