Description
Another Mass Effect cake - Wrex this time! I admit, I got a bit lazy with the painting... I was tired!A more detailed version of his face can be seen here [link]
And I did take sort of step by step pictures while making this one, so I have put them up to show the work progress of making the cake here [link]

Haha yep, don't have time for it to be anymore than a hobby... and it's slightly less stressful that way!

By the Gods, I thought this was a digital painting or a sculpture or something until I clicked on it and found out it was a cake. I am amazed by this...

I know, it'd be a shame if it'd go all mouldy and horrible but I'd have eaten it with a tear in my eye

I haven't got to play the first ME. I'm on a PlayStation, we missed out.
Hopefully I'll get it on the PC sometime. Is it as good as the other two?

BeanieBat In reply to terthii [2012-08-11 23:03:18 +0000 UTC]
Oh, I don't know if I can answer that fairly! It was the first one I played, so I think it will always be my favourite! ME2 is a close second though! Well, the story is the best of the 3 I think. But the gameplay was definitely improved in the latter games. And the side missions are a bit repetitive... but you get to experience the joys of Mako driving
Bottom line, it's worth playing!

Oh, I don't doubt that! I personally liked the second one better than the third. I thought it had more of an emotional impact. Just me though!

Yeah I definitely liked the second one better too. The third one felt rushed. Well, if you do play the first one, let me know how you like it! =]

sacaku In reply to BeanieBat [2012-08-11 21:28:02 +0000 UTC]
Thank you for posting the making of stuff. I don't know if I could ever convince a friend to do it but I might just try it myself. I noticed you used Fondant for the majority of it. I know it's somewhat stiffer but exactly what sort of difference does it make in terms of 'sculpting' and how do you make and color it? (Every time I try to color ANY type of icing it never works out right. Ex: instead of red I get a neon pink...)

BeanieBat In reply to sacaku [2012-08-11 21:55:12 +0000 UTC]
No problem! I hope it's helpful Well fondant actually gets really soft when you are mixing it (it's actually very annoying!
) so sculpting is pretty easy. In fact, sometimes it's a little too soft and hard to get it to keep in place. The fondant hardens from the outside, so normally the part that is not exposed to air stays pretty soft. So if you were to try and sculpt at this point, you still can but just be aware that the very top layer will be a bit grainy and will crack a little - sometimes this can be useful! But normally I'd start sculpting as soon as I've put the icing on. And it takes longer than you'd think for it to start to harden, so you have good time to work on it.
I normally have a few colours that I just buy from shops (like red ), as this is much quicker for making up other colours. But if I had to make a colour from scratch then I use a mixture of food colouring paste and powders =]

Awesome, sorry to bug you just one more question. What sculpting tools do you use? Are they tools specially made for cake sculpting or just ones you found worked best? (And where could I possibly get them?)
Again thank you!

BeanieBat In reply to sacaku [2012-08-12 08:08:07 +0000 UTC]
Don't worry, you're not bugging me! =] For Wrex cake I used 2 PME sculpting tools (which are cake ones but I think they're same as clay ones ) and a scalpel. I'm not sure what the tools were called exactly, but there in one of the pictures in the making of. The Wrex cake was the first cake I used tools for, so I haven't really tried out any others, but I liked these ones! I've picked up a few more since, but haven't used them yet. I think you can get them on Amazon or eBay.
No problem! =]
