Description

...What, you don't think Nightmare Moon was the only one that snapped on that fateful day? Legends tell of a dark tale that overcame both princesses when they went to war with one another. They would say that after the great battle Princess Celestia's lamented only grew worse the longer her sister remained on the moon. All the pleasurable company in the land could not console her. She would sit on her throne and gaze off into a corner of the room. Whenever food was offered she would not even bat an eye towards the lustrous platters of exotic dishes before her. It was almost as if the glow of the moon was her last ray of sunshine.

As days passed her hair slowly lost its luminousity, and more and more strands were noticably out-of-place from discontinued brushing; her guards saw a lost version of what was once a great ruler of their proud land. Her behaviour continued to worsen and a temporary senate had to form to govern the land. She stayed in her quarters most of the time; and the last time anyone has heard her spoke was when she ordered her guards to prevent anyone from disturbing her in her own chambers. She needed help and nobody knew what to do.

About 15 days several staff in the palace have noticed their leader walking around the palace grounds... aimlessly. She would stop to look at blank walls... *flip flip flip* Wait... seriously? They literally threw kittens, puppies, and baby ponies at her until she cheered up a little. This is the worst ending ever- what a cop-out! THEY RUINED THE FANDOM!

[*Dumps a box full of kittens onto Sunset Shimmer*]

Hey! What the heck are you- awww who's a good kitteee?! Who's a good kittey?! Snuggie snuggie snuggie snuggie snuggie snuggie snuggie!

I prove my point. Now, if I can get these kittens back to Fluttershy I would- OH CELESTIA; THAT KITTY HAS A BOW on its head!

I wasn't sure how to respond to Princess Celestia banishing her sister being met with a single tear in the season 4 opener. Apparently in my head, spending 21 hours over 3 days working on a single comic strip that tried to make that impact hit harder was the ideal solution... I'm not really sure what my brain was thinking in forcing me into an all-nighter. ****.

I also wanted to stretch my boundaries in comic-making once again; there's a few new tricks I threw into the cogs this time around to make this happen. This would have been impossible to produce using MS Paint alone.

Sick fucks? You mean like those who try to excuse Luna for what she was about to do, so many years ago?
Celestia did what had to be done, for the protection of Equestria. And this wasn't just something that could be punished by a light slap on the fet-lock.

PyramidHead90 In reply to ColonelBSacquet [2014-12-17 23:47:21 +0000 UTC]

Suuuuuure she did.  I mean it's not like it's become abundantly clear over the course of the first two seasons that Celestia isn't above being dishonest and doesn't have even remotely the level of power she claims to have.  And what WAS Luna going to do?  Make it dark?  Boo-fucking-hoo, if England can still be populated despite that area seeing the sun less often than i see basic human decency out of a politician, whatever semblance of eternal night a fraud claiming to be a god can cook up can't be that bad.  If Luna and Celestia actually were powerful enough to control celestial bodies and one of them did go mad, assuming that story wasn't completely made up by Celestia and fed to Luna after her mind was broken, then maybe there'd be cause for alarm.

And maybe in response it would have been better to kill Luna instead of subjecting her to centuries of what was essentially torture.  Whatever havoc Nightmare Moon let loose was kind of warranted after she had been buried alive and left to rot for centuries by an evil bitch claiming to be her sister.

ColonelBSacquet In reply to PyramidHead90 [2014-12-18 06:57:51 +0000 UTC]

"Make it dark?"

Yes. She was going to make it night-like dark 24H a day, 365 "days" per year. I reeeally don't see what could go wrong.

"if England can still be populated despite that area seeing the sun less often than i see basic human decency out of a politician"

Oh, please. England, and all of the British Isles, are still sunny enough to make things grow there.
It's nothing, NOTHING like eternal night. Not even like polar night.

"whatever semblance of eternal night a fraud claiming to be a god can cook up can't be that bad."

Who said NMM was a fraud? She was Luna transformed, wasn't she? Therefore, didn't she have the same power as Luna?

"If Luna and Celestia actually were powerful enough to control celestial bodies"

In the show, there's no reason not to think they really are powerful enough to control celestial bodies.
Trying to apply our world's logic to Equestria isn't exactly 100 % accurate.
Yet, it seems to be what you do. Just for the sake of mindlessly hating one character that doesn't deserves such a hate.

"assuming that story wasn't completely made up by Celestia and fed to Luna after her mind was broken"

And why would that story be made up by Celestia, pray tell?
Once again, you have strictly no proof at all. Just gratuitous and mindless hating, I tell you.

"And maybe in response it would have been better to kill Luna instead of subjecting her to centuries of what was essentially torture."

Yeah, right. Because killing your sister is something sooo easy to do, right?

"an evil bitch claiming to be her sister."

Evil bitch? Claiming to be her sister?
She REALLY is Luna's older sister. Evil bitch? She's nor evil - maybe just misguided. But she already made it clear that even though she's a goddess, she has flaws -, and she's not a bitch either - once again, she did what was right. Which doesn't mean it was easy or joyful to do.
Don't be so quick to judge an imaginary character in a situation so dire it would have probably left nearly all of us mentally scarred.

If Celestia was content to leave Luna in agony for centuries, then it isn't that much of a leap to snuff her out entirely.  And besides, a political leader who has ruled for centuries who never once killed someone or made a decision that directly resulted in someone's death even though the ponies did face wars and monsters?  There's suspension of disbelief, and then there's "Get the fuck out."

As for me doubting the godlike powers he princesses supposedly possess, there's the detail that Celestia never does anything herself to prevent the villains from popping up, nothing in that world suggesting that night and day are directly controlled by an individual, and the one time i did see her directly interfering in a villain's plans, she got her ass handed to her.  We're supposed to believe that someone lazy, vindictive, and too weak to take on a goddamn bug is a god?

Just to hammer in the point one more time, there's suspension of disbelief, then there's "Get the fuck out."

"there's the detail that Celestia never does anything herself to prevent the villains from popping up"

I agree it will sound stretched, but just because you don't see something doesn't necessarily mean that it doesn't exist/hasn't happened.

" and the one time i did see her directly interfering in a villain's plans"

That's it. The ONE time. You can't possibly build a sound general assumption by using just one event.

"We're supposed to believe that someone lazy, vindictive, and too weak to take on a goddamn bug is a god?"

Lazy, vindicative, too weak to take on a goddamn bug ... It has never, ever been clearly proved, nor stated,
that Celestia is anything remotely like what you write here. That's being over-imaginative.

Besides, the "goddamn bug" wasn't exactly just a random bug, but practically the Master of Deception and Disguise, pretty much like Discord is the God of Chaos.
Not many would have fared even half as good as Celestia.
There's the Mane 6, right. But those are led by Twilight Sparkle, the personal student of Celestia. An absurdly knowledgeable and magically gifted and trained unicorn - and later alicorn.

"there's suspension of disbelief, then there's "Get the fuck out."

I get the picture. Though, those suspicions are nothing else than that: suspicions. Maybe not baseless°, but un-proved suspicions.

°Not entirely baseless in the sense that you have an opinion about that. And this opinion of yours, no matter how debatable, can still be used as a base for further thoughts.

Master of deception and disguise my left nut.  The damn thing couldn't even remotely imitate the princess it was posing as, the only reason it went unnoticed is because the ponies are fucking stupid.  Comparing her to the Q Continuum's equivalent of crab lice is like comparing R2-D2 with Harbinger.  One is a sentient warship over two kilometers tall capable of casually eradicating entire armadas, the other is an obsolete repair droid.  Or if we were being topical with the whole magic thing, it's like comparing Trixie with The Guardian from the Ultima series.  One is an evil, godlike being that conquers entire worlds and can create lesser gods, the other one is completely useless outside of amusing shipping fodder for Twilight.

"Master of deception and disguise my left nut"

Hello? Queen of the Changelings that fooled absolutely anypony, with the notable exception of Twilight Sparkle.
Chrysalis is indeed the Master of her art.

"The damn thing couldn't even remotely imitate the princess it was posing as"

Once again, the fact that she fooled absolutely everypony - except TS - proves you wrong.

"the only reason it went unnoticed is because the ponies are fucking stupid. "

That is nothing but your own, personal opinion. You have, once again, no solid, canon-proved facts to support this.

Another explanation - and, arguably, the only sound one so far - is that Chrysalis, being queen of a kingdom populated by a species notable for their shape-shifting abilities, is, as I've written earlier, the Queen of Deception and Disguise.

"Comparing her to the Q Continuum's equivalent of crab lice"

What? O_o What series are you refering to, here?
Besides that, I don't see what you mena when you write "Q Continuum equivalent of [...]"

What series am i... STAR TREK!  Discord is a rip-off of Q, a member of a collection of godlike beings from Star Trek: The Next Generation to whom time and space were malleable.  The collection was referred to as the Q Continuum.

Also i do have canon proof that Celesia was fucking stupid.  The guards were supposed to be on high alert for a pending attack, but not only did Celestia leave the defense of the city in the hands of one moron, she failed to spot drastically different behavior in him and his beard.  The wedding still going on at a time when they thought they were in danger is another jackass move.   If you want to earn the title "Queen of Deception and Disguise" you need to do better than trick an idiot like Celestia and Twilight's five "Friends."  Agent 47 did a better job disguising himself and fooling others, and the asshole was a bald psychopath!

X-D I see that you're a "Trekkie", aren't you? ^^
I know of the film, of course, but I haven't watched it yet.

"Also i do have canon proof that Celesia was fucking stupid."

*Ahem* That would be a proof of her one-time and less-than-optimal discernment. Not of an inherent stupidity.
She made a grave mistake, but all make some.

A moron, Shining Armor? He clearly isn't. Mi Amore Cadenza wants to marry him, and she wouldn't marry a moron, now, would she? What makes you think that?
His ... beard? O_o I do not recall of SA having a beard, but well ... if you say so.
It is most-easy to judge in hindsight, and with points of views they can't have.
But in their places, I do not think we would have fared any better.

Trick an idiot? But Celestia isn't one. She definitely isn't. Otherwise, she wouldn't be Co-Ruler of Equestria, would she? And it takes  Queen of Deception and Disguise to mimick a character up to being able to fool most of the relatives of the mimicked character.

"Friends"? Why the quotation marks? They really are her friends. Aren't they Bearers of Harmony, therefore the closest friends?

"Agent 47 did a better job disguising himself and fooling others, and the asshole was a bald psychopath!"

:-D I played the game a bit, once. And some "disguised" scenes made me giggle more than one time, indeed. ^^

PyramidHead90 In reply to ColonelBSacquet [2014-12-20 19:07:18 +0000 UTC]

No, i'm not a Trekkie.  I think Shatner's overrated and a real asshole, never could get into TNG, liked only one of the movies, and don't get me started on that fucking idiot Abrams and the reboot movies.  I have problems finding out what's a bigger disgrace to the former Star Trek actors, Nimoy actually appearing in the new abortively awful movies, or John De Lancie appearing in a cartoon with less effort going into it than your average Transformers series.

Also, you really are tragically ignorant of current events if you bring up being a ruler as evidence that Celestia isn't an idiot.  Let me remind you that the most powerful military nation in the world has had leaders such as Ronald Reagan, someone so assnumbingly stupid he thought ketchup counted as a serving of vegetables and good ol Dubya.  And they weren't even the worst, you also had Palin who failed basic geography and history, politicians in Texas who see to think Jesus was a founding father, and in my state of Missouri we had an elected official who claimed women couldn't get pregnant from rape.  And Celestia does seem to be worthy of being ranked among them, neglecting to prepare Twilight for Nightmare Moon's return, abandoning her dying pet and failing to mention to people who were clearly concerned about it that death wasn't that big of a deal for her bird, and most infamously failing to recognize a creature SHE WAS ON HER WAY TO HUNT.  Oh yeah, there's also her managing the whole Luna situation to begin with and letting her sister become demonized over the years painting her as either a vindictive bitch or an idiot (i like to say both).

As for why i put friends in quotation marks, it's because the ponies aren't friends.  Twilight clearly showed in season two that she views them as the means to an end, they ignored Twilight's instability, Pinkie Pie seems completely incapable of forming relationships, Fluttershy became highly abusive towards them after a little bad advice, and don't get me started on Equestria Girls which had a massive feud going on between five of them after minor breakdowns in communications.  They are acquaintances at best, maybe a couple of them who may have known each other before Twilight began viewing them as subjects in a social experiment could count but the six of them are not friends.  They get along, but any time shit hits the fan they break apart.

Now maybe i'm just a little too negative.  After all you could chalk a lot of this up to bad writers who can't manage characters to save their worthless lives.  But where's the fun in that when you can just use mistakes and oversights in writing as evidence that Equestria is a brightly colored hell?

Rainbow-Gale In reply to PyramidHead90 [2015-04-10 15:25:04 +0000 UTC]

Two things. First: Twilight did prepare her for nightmare moon's escape. She told her to make friends. Duh. She knew that Twilight would need the other element bearers in order to change her sister back to normal. How she knew that Twilight would find them we don't know but she apparently had some foreknowledge about the events that were to unfold. Second: The reason why Celestia was unconcerned with the health of her bird is because it just happened to be a Phoenix you dip shit. In case you didn't know the lifecycle of a Phoenix is that they live, burst into flames when they die, and then are reborn from their ashes. Celestia knew this and thus is the reason why she was unconcerned about the birds health.

Also what did you mean by that part about failing to recognize a creature she was on her way to hunt? I don't remember that in the series.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

PyramidHead90 In reply to Rainbow-Gale [2015-04-10 21:32:19 +0000 UTC]

Twilight prepared who for Nightmare Moon's return?  It was supposed to be Celestia who could have very easily given Twilight explicit instructions and also NOT left one of her godforsaken nation's only means of defense in a hostile forest full of monsters that you'd hire a Witcher to deal with.  Or better yet, if it had to go through that fucking stupid "DUR YOU NEED FRIENDSHIP" bit, even though we've clearly seen they aren't really friends, she should have sent Twilight weeks if not months in advance to cultivate the friendship.  There was no reason any of that had to go down that way.

Also, i know about the bird.  Maybe if read the post you'd spot me mentioning that death wasn't a big deal to the bird.  Yeah, death is a minor inconvenience to a phoenix.  NO ONE ELSE IDENTIFIED IT AS A PHOENIX AND THOUGHT THE FUCKING THING WAS BEING NEGLECTED.  And it could very well have been knowing pony Annie Wilkes.

As for the last one... actually if you forgot points i made in a comment while typing the response to the comment, maybe i shouldn't be surprised you don't remember her saying she was off to deal with a parasprite problem but not recognizing a parasprite when it flew right up to her.  Maybe pony Annie Wilkes is the wrong nickname, Wilkes was always painted as being intelligent despite how disturbed she was.  Pony George Bush?  No, that doesn't fit, supposedly Equestria is part of some nightmarish mirror world Canada.  Who was a really stupid politician from Canada?

Pony Ted Cruz!  That may work.

Oh relax.  Wheatley was free-floating and likely would have either re-entered Earth's atmosphere on his own and die during re-entry, or he would have been exposed directly to the sun without the Earth's protective atmosphere and die that way.  He got off easy.

Luna on the other hand suffered hundreds of years of damning isolation, effectively enduring a fate far worse than death and turning into an insane monster while on the moon after being banished by Celestia after Luna questioned Celestia's propaganda claiming they controlled celestial bodies.  Celestia makes Joffrey Baratheon look positively cuddly by comparison.
