Unconditional

She sits on her bed
Head hanging low
It had been another long day
Of her little girl's tears
And screams and blood

She remembered when
Her little baby girl
Was carefree, innocent, and joyous
How had the world warped her into
Beautiful, perfect, daughter
Into a love girl with a broken heart
And how can she possibly show her baby
That the world isn't as bad as it seems

She let a few tears fall down her face
As she thought about her babies arms
They used to be unblemished
But now hundreds of scars marred the skin
And they had all been self inflicted
How could she have been so terrible
That she didn't notice her daughter's pain
How had she let it get this bad
How had she failed her baby
So much that her baby
Took knives to her skin

She took a deep breath
And tried to calm down
But she couldn't
Because what if tomorrow
She awoke to a shining sun
And her baby was dead
She didn't want to lose
Her precious little girl
She wished she could take
Every little bit of pain away

She stood and walked
Back to the girl's room
And laid down beside her child
If her perfect baby was going to die that night
She would not be dying alone

She fell asleep
Fretting over the hospitals
That didn't help
And the school
Which was letting her baby down
She dreamed of the lifeless
Look on her babies face
While they tried to get her better
But when nothing worked
And her baby was more miserable
Living away from home
She had the doctors sign the discharge
And took the girl home
But what if that was the wrong decision

When she awoke, she panicked
For her daughter was no longer in bed
She went downstairs, calling out
And found the girl making breakfast
"I wanted to say I love you"
The young girl simply tried to explain
Tearfully she wrapped her arms around her baby
"I love you too."
And it was true
No matter the hell she went through
While trying to help her daughter
She would always love her baby girl
Unconditionally.
