Couple other interesting things: how did he lose all the armor and the arrow between falling in the river and being pulled out, and why does Esmeralda sew up his chest and not his back?

He's not even in the book! Disney just made him so Esmerelda wouldn't have to end up with an ugly guy.
Quasimodo is hideous, but he's nice and the hero of the story. And what does he get for saving a girls' life and rescuing all of Paris? The right to go outside!

1. It could just be stuck in his cape
2. Where it is located is under the arm which does not have any protection unless he is wearing chainmail. Which, if you watch the movie, you'll notice he has none.
3. Considering that his armor is yellow could mean that A. it's made of gold which is heavy and soft. B. It's rusting. C. It's a decorative chest plate that is only meant for show not actual use in combat.

disney did not fail. people are simple minded. ill admit disney has botched a few scenes in some of their movies. just not this particular scene.

And there's a possibility, for mobility reasons, that that's the just right area with a gap between the plates

thank you. any arguments against this comment are invalid. nobody realizes there are gaps in armor for mobility reasons. ever.

Actually, an arrow can go through an armor, depends on the type of arrow and bow/crossbow.

and on top of that, when she was stitching him back up, she was stitching him up in the front and not the back.

They killed his favourite super-hero cape, and this resulted in his heart being broken, and that is how I explain his wound.

Humour is srs bzns!!
And then Esmeralda said :It's okay. I'll make you a new cape (again)
Quasi (thinks): So it's all in the cape then..
*wears his own cape when he and Phoebus go to warn Esmeralda in the Quart of Miracles*

They would actually build arrow tips to penetrate heavy armor, worked sort of like a drill.
