Both are known to use the sins of their opponents against them and primarily use chains + firearms in combat

Possess similar edgy and gritty hellish aesthetics (The almost all black suit, spikes, demonic looks and chains)

Once lived out their lives as ordinary men, but soon afterwards a slew of bad luck and unfortunate circumstances ended up wrecking havoc on upon their lives (Both Johnny's biological father & adopted father - Barton Blaze & Crash Simpson died in a stunt gone wrong and Al was a former soldier-assassin who was murdered by his employer - Director Jason Wynn due to his uncooperative nature to cross lines that were deemed immoral)

They had both made a desperate deal with a demonic entity inspired by Satan to preserve/regain the life they had, under the condition that they serve the demonic entity for a lifetime thus they were transformed into vengeful punishers of sinners by them (Mephisto and Malebolgia)

Served as the demon's pawn for a while, but after they got tricked by said demon and left with fates worse than death, they swore revenge; having broken free and overthrew them, taking their place as the King of Hell for a time

Both were feared amongst their enemies due to being terrifying forces of natures that could overcome nearly any threats in the world and even any Gods that come their way

Both had a woman of their life whom they deeply love and tragically were unable live to the life they wanted with them due to their demonic curse, but would still watch over and protect them at all cost because due to their love and purity, they were both able to continue maintaining what was left of their humanity and heart rather then succumbing to the darkness of their inner-demons (Roxanne Simpson and Wanda Blake)

Underneath all their intimidating demonic personas however are men who are broken tortured souls due to their lives being wrought with nothing, but pain, tragedy and guilt, often struggling with their inner-demons and their curses which stripped them of any chance of the normal life they desired yet in spite of it all, the heart of the man they once were remained thus choose to use their demonic powers as a means to protect the innocence who were wronged just like them and humanity from whatever evil that stands against them
