Eventually, the fight abruptly transitioned to the ground, after Nadia managed to sweep Laura's leg. Because of their entanglement, they both fell at their sides with a loud thud.

Even though both of the fighters came from a background in grappling, Nadia managed to scramble into a more favourable position. Even minor errors cost either woman the match, and that's exactly what happened there.

Laura left her left hand exposed, and Nadia instantly caught it and applied a vicious Kimura lock. At this point, both women were breathing heavily from exhaustion. Rocha still tried freeing herself, but after her English rival started wrenching the hold even more, she had to tap out, to avoid any injuries.

In the end, Nadia's hand was raised on New Year's Eve. Her win tonight means she's got herself another date in Japan. Her bout with Laura Rocha was a semi-final of the women's featherweight tournament and the winner would proceed to the final match which will take place near the end of January, with her future opponent fighting for the spot on the very same night as she did.
