This is a Plastiline makeup sculpted onto the cast of the actor. The weird gray smooth part is part of the moulding process that allows the makeup to be cut off at the white line... to create a blended 'feathered' edge.Related content

To be fair... I have the guys skin texture as reference in a plaster form. Also... much of the skin texture (excluding the pores on the chin - made with an angled bodkin or needle pressed into a plastic sheet laid over the surface of the plastiline) is made by making latex stamps of the skin.
