Beforehand, I mostly partook in painting still nature or live models in a rather realistic manner. This is one of my first and best attempts at breaking away from the confines of strict observation and realism. Painting was started by first trying to quickly capture my silhouette with a broad brush and decisive strokes, while observing myself in the mirror. Next step was to completely forego this, in an attempting to subjectively capture what i thought i looked like.
