Chapter 4 - Alternative Version

Sherlock had noticed the lack of fuss that I would normally do on days like this. He appeared at the entrance of my bedroom door as I was tapping away at my computer. He walked over to my bed and sat down dramatically on it to get my attention. I didn't look away from the screen but I did say,

"Yes?"

"Nothing interesting has happened." I was looking up the news so I assumed that's what he meant.

"Apparently not," was my only reply. Sherlock leant his chin on my shoulder, so that I could feel his warm breath on my cheek. I shivered and felt the adrenaline drum through my body.

"I'm bored." His voice caused me to shiver again. "Can I have a gun please?" Ah that's what he wanted. I had placed the guns in my desk drawer and there was no way he could get to them without me noticing.

"No."

"Please." I turned to him, our noses almost touching. I felt my bottom lip quiver. I had only to move just a little bit closer and our lips could be touching. I smiled at the thought and then suddenly jumped up; forgetting Sherlock was leaning on me so he fell off the bed, bringing me down on top of him. Again our noses were touching and Sherlock was laughing, showing his teeth and his lips curled upwards perfectly. No! Again I jumped up. What was I thinking?

"John, you alright?" He was still laughing.

"I'm just…gonna go…to my room, have a lie down." I walked out the door and Sherlock called me back.

"John, this is your room, are you sure you're okay?" he was kneeling on the floor, his dressing gown draped across his shoulders, with genuine concern on his face.

"Fine, I'm fine." I walked to my bed and collapsed onto it trying to straighten my thoughts. Sherlock came over and laid down next to me. My heart skipped a beat. "Sherlock," I said through gritted teeth, "I'm not feeling well, could you please leave me alone." He looked hurt.

"You're angry."

"No, I'm-" I did my best to smile. "I just want to sleep."

"Ok." He leant over and gave me a light peck on the forehead like a mother would a child and I stiffened. Sherlock then got up and went to leave the room but froze in the doorway, becoming aware of what had just done. He stood still unable to leave the room without an explanation but unable to turn around and face up to the fact that he had just kissed me! We both were silent for while until I realised that Sherlock could go days without saying anything so I had to say something.

"Um, Sherlock, what was that?" He straightened himself, full of dignity and grace.

"What was what? I didn't do anything."

"Oh no, you can't pretend nothing happened, you just kissed me!" He swayed on his feet a little.

"You can't call that a kiss, it was just 'a get-better-peck'." He traced a shape on the ground with his foot and then flicked his eyes at me as if he had just made a decision. "This is a kiss." And with that he leapt onto the bed and kissed me passionately on the lips. Unaware of what I was doing, I found myself kissing him back. Of course it all made sense, why I put up with his childish ways, his drama and his tantrums. Because I loved him. And in that moment I was happy.
