Creo que se debe a... esos "bordes interiores" oscurecidos con aerógrafo.
Bien empleado es truco de hiperrealistas,
Y esa rara profundidad atmosférica. Creo!

Bordes oscurecidos + Profundidad atmosférica + contraste figura/fondo y, creo, la manera en que están difuminados los volúmenes.

No había reparado en sus ojos. Que buen detalle, lo hace ver más "berzerker" XD
