There's an eclectic pub in a town in which I lived for a few years, but let's not delve into history or weirdness or anything else.

Consider the stone. It isn't elegant, it isn't fancy, it obviously hasn't been particularly renovated or refinished. The stones of the archway aren't planed, finished, dressed or all that even -- but someone sought, however ephemerally, to bring a little artistry to a side window on a nondescript brick building in a small New England hilltown.

I wish I knew something about that anonymous mason.
