You know you getting this person negivetive thoughts and I make it feel bad and hating herself. You and other need to help people get build up instade of down cause you can hurt people with word. So do respect look into a mirror and say " should I be an ass hole and cause a 50 percent chance to make this person kill them self or be positive and tell them it's art is amazing"

there is no criticism there here is a better one,
i like the piece of art and the idea behind it a love that you inspired it from animal jam (witch i play)
although the seals proportions are a bit off making it look a bit fat try thinning it a bit,
plus it looks like you sprayed shading everywhere, best thing to do is find out were your light is hitting the
seal, tiger, and phantoms! the you go on the opposite side and place the shadows! over all it a really nice work andΒ
i love the colors you have on let see the tiger, the tiger look really nice but the execution of its back legs is stopping youΒ
yet again good color choices on every animal, as in you have really nice colors but you don't have to say its a tiger
skimming though
* the seal proportions are off
* work on shading and lighting
* include more of the animals
and that about it! i love your work and i love what your doing hope to see you improve!

No, there's criticism, it just isn't very detailed and it's very blunt. Your not liking it and it not being the type you'd leave doesn't negate the fact that it's criticism.Β
My criticism to you would be to check your grammar and spelling because it makes your comments hard to read and understand.Β

PeinMartyn In reply to BlackBearCJ [2017-03-31 01:08:23 +0000 UTC]
That is not criticism. It's just being straight up rude. If what they said was criticism, their comment would be something like this: "The seal's body is too big. The piece would be much better If he were thinned out a bit. Also, I think it would add to the scene if you had shown the tiger's full body by enlarging the canvas and drawing the back legs and the tail. (Insert good comments about the art here)." Now that is what a good critic would have said. Real criticism would balance out good and bad comments as much as possible: you don't want the artist to feel as if they're not good at drawing, but you also don't want them to feel too highly of their art piece if there are some flaws. If you point out flaws in the drawing, give them a suggestion on how they could fix them. Calling the drawing ugly is just bringing down and making them feel bad. Criticism is supposed to help artists improve, not bring sorrow.

BlackBearCJ In reply to PeinMartyn [2017-03-31 11:29:25 +0000 UTC]
I'm not saying it wasn't rude I'm saying there was valid criticism there despite the rudeness. It wasn't necessary to be rude but that doesn't take away from the valid points that are there (Even though I personally don't think the deal being so fat is bad, it's believably stylistic). Criticism doesn't have to be a short paragraph to be real criticism. Criticism can be mean, neutral or nice and there's more than one type. It may have been more destructive criticism than anything but there was still comments on the piece and why it didn't look right.Β
So I'm sorry, even if they don't give criticism in the way you dictate is the way to give it, it doesn't mean it wasn't real criticism. Real criticism can just be saying the negative, even if they don't give ways to improve. Because you can't always do that and the person may not know the technical aspects even if they know it looks wrong (or in some cases can't put their finger on what is wrong though that's not the case here). So maybe they weren't being a particularly good critic, but they were still being a real one. Part of growing as an artist is having to learn to deal with all kinds of criticism, even when it doesn't point out the good in the picture, and even when it just points out what's wrong with no tips. You never know what kind of critique will bring sorrow anyway, plenty have been brought down by the kind you mention. You have to move past it.Β
The point of my comment was mostly about the stupid notion that someone has to be better than someone else at art to tell them it looks wrong and give criticism.Β

I accept what you said, but I still don't think it's valid criticism. I think of criticism as a very short essay. In an essay, you would have to write your opinion as well as the reasons for your opinion. I think that a critic should state what they don't like about the art piece as well as reasons for it. Most of the time you don't need to state how to change something in an art piece for the artist to realize how they can go about fixing it. For example, let's say someone drew a cat and the critic says something like this: "I don't like the cat because the paws are too big." The solution to fixing this, the artist realizes, is to make the paws smaller. Now if that critic says something like this, the story is different: "I don't like the cat." The solution to fixing this, the artist realizes, is unknown. He knows not how to change the art so that it is enjoyable to the eyes of the critic. I don't believe that is criticism, whether you may call it a type of criticism or not.

"critΒ·iΒ·cism
ΛkridΙΛsizΙm/
noun
1.
the expression of disapproval of someone or something based on perceived faults or mistakes.
2.
the analysis and judgment of the merits and faults of a literary or artistic work."
It doesn't matter what you think of criticism or what you think is valid. It doesn't have to be an essay to be criticism. It doesn't have to give advice. It has to be what's stated there. It definitely falls under to one, if not both of those, even if it's bare bones.Β
Also your cat example is really bad. Not liking something isn't the same as there being a fault. If I drew a Maine Coon cat and someone said they didn't like it because the paws were big, fine for them, but Maine Coons have big paws. 'I don't like' isn't a good way to express that there's a fault. Plenty of people don't like my style for furry art because it isn't cartoony. It doesn't make that a flaw it just makes it different. The 'I don't like' gives the impression of a more personal complaint than critical and can make someone just seem naive or even that the art should cater just to them. More so than even 'I think the paws are too big.' or plainly, 'The paws are too big.' It's all still criticism but if you're trying to give an example of what you think all criticism should be like, I'd think of something better.Β

I would still like to see where exactly it is on DA. Someone said they would like a screencap of it, then refused. Someone else said it is a jammagram design, but it isn't - I checked. The only other thing I can think of is one of the in-game artworks, because honestly, I don't think they would leave something with that little aesthetic appeal to remain(Sorry to the artist, but the style just isn't aesthetically pleasing).

This is clearly not traced so many people think it is but it's inspired art probly referenced. Layer it over the one it was supposedly traded from and it's not the same they have their own style and it's not character desing theft because it's originally from animal jam

PeinMartyn In reply to Fiona2005 [2017-03-31 01:11:09 +0000 UTC]
It's not traced, it's reference. Put one on top of the other. Both art styles are different and the lines aren't even in the same place.
