I've been watching football since I moved to the Phoenix-area in 1992. I know some information of America's Game. One thing that developed is specific names for linebackers. The 4-3 is easy: Will for the Weakside Outside LB, Mike for the Middle Linebacker, and Sam for the Strongside Outside LB. The 3-4 is a bit more tricky. Why? A few reasons.
There's no standardization for the linebacker names. Different coaches/defensive coordinators would have different names.
In some places, the Will is the Weakside Outside LB, other times, it's the Weakside Inside LB. (The Mike is the Strongside Inside LB).
The 4th LB can come in several different names. I use "Jack" based on a tweet by the Match Quarters/Art of X Twitter account. It can also be called Joker, Buck or Elephant. (I wanted to add Leo, but the term is used for the 4-3 Under front.)
Yeah, it's a bit complicated. I really got into the 3-4 because the Cardinals started using this defense right around the season they reached the Super Bowl. It's quite intriguing using this defense on Madden.
