James Alexander Hugens was born on April 5, 2073 in Setter, Hyugen Islands, and that's where he grew up ever since. In September 2091, shortly after graduating from high school, he continues to Stanford and studying Aeronautics, Astronautics, and Fusion Engineering for 4 years. After graduating, he enlisted in the GSDF as a pilot. Proving a superb pilot in training, Excel was assigned to a squadron named "Martian Falcons" for combat operations in Mars.

In March 2097, during a patrol in Noachis Terra. He and his squad were ambushed by Martian guerillas, his spacecraft was shot down, but evaded capture and escaped to the near GSDF base in Argyre Basin. He is the only survivor from his squad. The 2 pilot of his squad is killed in action, and the fate of the other 5 pilots is still unknown. He could have gone home, but he put in a request to return to combat, a request that went all the way up to GSDF General. Jamie Nkonkoni. The request granted, Excel returned to action in August 2097. Later, he was credited with shooting down 3 Guerilla fighters in a single day. Excel is currently stationed at Drizzelcomb Base in Europa with the rank of Lieutenant. He is a member of a new squad called Squadron 73.

The name Excel is an accident. During a mission , he was originally going to be called "Axolotl 1", but because the name pronounciation
"EX-CEL-LOT-TUL" is quite difficult, they cut his name to "Axol" which sounds like "Excel", it's both simple and easily memorized. The name "Excel" also stands for "Excellent"
