Battalion Commander Aksel (CC-8144) is the leader of all four companies under the Republic's 843rd Attack Battalion, a unit that typically saw assignments in fast-paced, short-medium range urban combat zones. His unique armour set is built upon the TUSK II Tactical Urban Survival Kit, which featured a visor, enhanced communication array, target designator, flood light, jump pack, chest rig and utility kit. He primarily fought with a custom DC-15RD compact blaster with a fire-rate twice as fast as conventional DC-15S carbines, and had a reflex sight and suppressor affixed to it. He was also equipped with a vibro-blade as well as a DC-17S pistol as side arms. Contrary to other clones of his rank, Aksel would mostly stay on the front lines and fight directly alongside his troops, taking on a role more akin to a captain in terms of involvement. During moments of down-time, higher-ranking officers within the battalion such as SGMs and the unit 2IC would take the opportunity to observe allied progress through photos taken by republic starships above the battleground, and dispatch orders to the surrounding troops notifying them of upcoming enemy advancements and the counter-offensive plans in response to CIS incursions. Thanks to the brave and skilful leadership provided by Aksel, the 843rd earned a reputation among fellow units as being a formidable assault force capable of defying near-hopeless odds in the face of being vastly outnumbered. During the latter days of the clone wars, Aksel was informed by another trooper that "some guy over in the 501st who went mad and killed a jedi, they won't tell us why it happened but apparently there's been some talk of behavioural bio-chips or something like that". Prior to hearing this information, the commander partook in independent research on the topic and later came across documents outlining the existence and purpose of the inhibitor chip. Since he had no available means to remove the object without killing himself at the time, he panicked and left the base he was stationed in for a sparsely-populated stretch of space thousands of light years away where he lived peacefully until around 11 BBY, when he was discovered and recruited by rebel partisans. He lived out the rest of his days as the captain of an Alliance Spec Ops company, carrying out strike missions across the galaxy until growing too old and frail to continue fighting.
