Description
A steam stack is a tall geological structure formed by millions of years of geothermal activity. Such formations often host a wide array of autotrophic life, particularly chemosynthetic plants. On a stack's southern end where light is less readily available, these organism thrive by pulling chemical compounds from the air and soil around them. On the northern light-exposed side, small plate-based photosynthesizers grapple for a spot to harness the constant daylight. The stack itself periodically shoots jets of superheated liquid into the air. This liquid can be functionally classified as water, however it contains large concentrations of other chemicals such as hydrogen sulfide and hydrogen sulfate. This expulsion is acidic, and would make the area smell of rotten eggs.
