Ash: That was before I became a Guardian. The moment I hatched, they tried to turn me into a Pure One. But I couldn't, my gizzard wouldn't let me. So I was punished, though tortured would be the better word.

Ash: There where times that I wished I would die. That the pain would end. And it did one night when the Guardians invaded St. Angelus. In the confusion of the battle, I ran until I couldn't run anymore. I then hid inside a log and while the Guardians where looking for survivors, they found me and brought me to Ga'Hoole.
