Above the formula, is that a tip of the hat to the game Alchemy? And I've SEEN that formula before, but can't remember offhand. Not gonna cheat and look it up, not fair. But I remember it being somewhat common.

It is the first chemical that Mankind routinely produced, 5000 years ago. It is the byproduct of the metabolism of yeast.
It's Ethanol!

I knew it looked familiar.

Bonus points if you can figure out the chemical formula on the chalkboard.

Hmmm... It's a dot diagram showing a covalent bond between 6 Hydrogen atoms, 2 Carbon atoms, and an Oxygen atom... That would be H6C2O... (Yay! This is good review! I think I have a test on ionic and covalent bonding and dot diagrams coming up!)

Actually, The Formula is C2H5OH. In organic chemistry, the OH is important because they denote what group of compounds the substance belongs to.
The sigle OH in this makes it an -ol compound (Ethanol, or grain alcohol). No Oxygen in the compound make is Ethane (C2H6). Addition of an ammonia group -NH2 makes it Ethamine (C2H5NH2)
This is college level stuff... In more ways than one...
