Brief Description:
Riverpaw is a stout brown tabby tom with pale orange eyes. His muzzle and underbelly are white.
Personality
Riverpaw is a rude, self-centered, insecure and arrogant cat, all hidden under the thinnest veneer of innocence. Riverpaw is aware that his behavior isn’t tolerated by most cats, so he does his best to only tease others lightly when adults are around. He is more cruel when authority figures aren’t around, which means that others who try to speak up about his behaviour are often told that Riverpaw’s teasing isn’t that bad, ‘I’ve seen him talk to you’. As such, while sometimes told to be more sensitive to others, Riverpaw is very rarely punished.
Riverpaw gets satisfaction from punching down and making others feel bad. If pressed, he wouldn’t say that’s why he harassed his peers, just that they had issues and he was helping correct them (something his mentor often says about his own harsh treatment of his apprentice)
Riverpaw is also bitterly jealous of others with happier families, since his own has so many issues. His most valued thing in the world is his sisters—he would do anything for them, and never feels sore if they do better than him. He’s almost as blind to their flaws as they are his, which makes them extremely close.
When it comes to being a warrior Riverpaw does as well he can, but doesn’t go above and beyond. He’s got a bit of a lazy streak, but he knows that if he ever acts on it that others will be more likely to treat him worse—he often fears appearing as weak as his victims.

History
[Kitten]
Riverpaw was lucky that both his parents survived the tsunami. His older sister, Duckkit, died at two moons of age when she was crushed in the mudslide. This broke his parents hearts, but especially his father Waspfur, who had been wanting to start a family since he was young. Soilwhisker did her best to keep the relationship together, but the grief eventually tore them apart.
Waspfur and Soilwhisker eventually found new relationships, doing their best to move on from the painful events that plagued their hearts even still.
Though they had different mates, Waspfur and Soilwhisker had a hard time cutting off contact completely. Between them Duckkit’s memory was alive in ways it wasn’t as just a sad backstory to their new partners.
This quickly became a disaster. In a moment of grief and passion, the two had a one night stand that unfortunately ended with Soilwhicker becoming pregnant. She tried her best to pass it off as her current mate’s kits, Whitedaisy. When Riverkit was born, his two siblings were Whitedaisy’s blood children, which further helped hide his identity.
Maybe things could have been saved from disaster, if not for Waspfur, who recognized his own look in his son. He found excuses to visit Soilwhisker and Riverkit as much as he could, but wasn’t too concerned about how suspicious his actions were becoming. He was too excited at the chance to become a father once again.
All of this culminated in a confrontation between Soilwhisker and Waspfur, which alerted Whitedaisy as to what exactly had happened underneath his nose.
The result was a fractured family. Soilwhisker and Whitedaisy were committed to stay together despite the betrayal, but they were never happy. Riverkit and his sisters Posykit and Cottonkit were wilting under the simmering anger of their parents.
Despite the sudden cold shoulder from Whitedaisy, Riverkit kept a close relationship with his littermates. Their peaceful games of mossball took on a rougher edge as the chaos and tension twisted their perception of reality. All three became much more hostile towards the other kits in the nursery, but Riverkit was the ringleader. He could seem dumb, and so many attributed his rougher actions to a kitten still discovering his own strength. Really, Riverkit was quickly becoming adept at figuring out how to deceive others around him.
Waspfur still attempted to gain space in Riverkit’s life, which he rejected completely. Despite the less-than-sweet treatment he received from Whitedaisy, he considered him his real father, blood or no. Waspfur was an annoyance, a pestering cat who’d divided his parents.
[Apprentice]
Riverpaw was given Sootfeather as a mentor at six moons. Sootfeather immediately knew he had a bit of a bully on his paws, and did his best to curb his apprentice’s mean impulses. Often this meant running Riverpaw ragged with training, or knocking him down a peg verbally. Sootfeather thought Riverpaw arrogant, but the constant put downs from his mentor only made him meaner—and the sharp eye on his activities only made his bullying sneakier.
