Description

I can’t stress how happy I am for FINALLY being able to nail down Jabir’s look. This jackass has made my brain run in circles for literally a decade! And Birvan (the guy in red) is even worse!!!
*yes, the very same guy this account was named after and I still haven’t figured out what’s his full backstory, after 15 years of trying*

Jabir is a Magical Mishap, a creature “born” from a spell gone wrong. That occurrence in itself is pretty rare, but it’s even rarer still for a Mishap to survive past the first few days, since they are considered failures and quickly disposed of

Each Mishap is unique (even those born from the same spell) and their main traits are determined by the type of ingredients used. And because they are the result of an awry spell their organisms rarely follow the laws of logic

Jabir is a snake blood mold one. Meaning his flesh is actually a type of fungi and his blood will devour any organic matter it comes in contact with, like a mold on steroids (but it can’t survive very long outside of a bloodstream, so once it dries or dies off it can actually be used for its medicinal properties)

And whenever he needs to heal himself he just shoves in a handful of dirt into the wound, which will cause all dormant plant life to burst into rapid growth, until their roots reach his blood and everything dies, leaving behind only a sterile clump of soil and a wound closed by a network of tender, recently grown fungi flesh

Besides those weird fungal properties, his snake side makes him particularly sensitive to the vibrations. Combining that to his sharp sense of smell and acute hearing, he can accurately send vibrations back, allowing him to manipulate and reshape matter within a certain range. Which also helps compensate the fact his eyes are near useless (he can barely tell light from dark and hot from cold. He can’t see colors anymore)

Another snake property is his strength, particularly in his coils, since he’s a  constrictor. His bite isn’t particularly strong (although his angled, curved teeth makes it hard to force him to let go) and he doesn’t possess venom, but if he’s bleeding from his mouth that can get is blood inside of the victim’s bloodstream. Which can be a death sentence if enough seeps in, since the mold will cause a severe infection and eat the target from inside out

All these scary features made Jabir gain a bad reputation over the years, despite the fact he rarely harms other sentients and prefers to keep to himself, travelling around the wilderness and target rodents and other small-medium game. The only times he actively gets near populated areas is during cold winters, in search for warmth, or when he’s attracted by the smell of trash and decay (his fungal side means he’s an active scavenger, although he doesn’t limit himself to just meat)

And as long as people don’t attack or corner him he’s pretty chill and he actually enjoys people’s company, particularly kids (since they’re often less judgmental than adults about his appearance). Animals on the other hand tend to be wary of him, because he stinks of death and rot to those with a sharp sense of smell

As for taking a human form, he can’t do that on his own. That’s actually Birvan’s doing, but it’s rarely used because it’s very complex and time consuming to cast a Glamour on someone whose very magical nature is awry and unpredictable to begin with
