where I live, we've passed peak season for the cherry blossoms now but they're still so pretty!

Unfortunately this year, even though DC is just a 30 minute train ride away, we weren't able to go to the actual festival in DC because the weather has just been awful and wet and freezing c,: its ok though! Every year since covid started my old roommate and my boyfriend and I have a personal cherry blossom picnic and my parents' house since they've got a bunch of cherry trees. We make hanami dango (which turned out better this year since I actually used the right ingredient ratio c; ), onigiri (I'm not good at rolling sushi >w>' ), and drink plum wine which is absolutely delicious. This year I also experimented with cutting rice paper into cherry blossom shapes and frying it into chips; the shapes didn't really keep, but it still tasted good!

We also lay out a bunch of seaweed snacks cause I can't resist those. Those worked out a lot better this year cause we had it inside next to the window overlooking the trees... last year, when we had it outside, it was super windy and blew the seaweed all over the place :,D at least my chickens ate really good that day (they FEAST on the fallen blossoms every year, and I don't mind much if they fall on my food; they taste kinda nice!)

anyways, there's my spiel on one of my favorite "holidays" of the year. I'm really gonna miss these trees when we move to Scotland, so if anyone lives in the UK and knows of where to see them, if there are any (even if they're different trees in the same family, like peaches or plums or pears)... you must let me know <3
