Description
This is my new Facebook cover art.Q*Bert and Coily were sculpted in ZBrush 4.0 using ZSpheres, the Move/Clay Buildup/Inflate brushes, and then Decimation Master.
I exported them over to Modo where I did all of the materials, reflections, lighting, and rendering.
The cartoon balloons were done in post in Photoshop as was all final compositing. No post was done on the actual 3D objects.

I'll explain this work. It tells a lot of history about me. As they say, a picture is worth a thousand words. :-P
I am a fan of the 1982 arcade hit Q*Bert and still play it along with other classic arcade and Atari 2600/NES games on occasion to relax. I also, obviously, do artwork as a creative outlet. I enjoy retro gaming because it's more visceral and raw, delving you straight into the gameplay without the graphical fluff and melodramatic story lines of games created today. My favorite 2600 game though is Solaris, for which I've attempted to contact the developer Doug Neubauer for permission to make a 3D remake of the game this last week and am eagerly awaiting a response, and in the meantime am studying a disassembly of the 6502 machine language source code of the original 16kb rom as an exercise in studying 6502 ASM, used on the Atari/NES, although as I've learned the 6507 chip was used on the 2600 as a means of reducing cost.
The lettering at the top is in graffiti as I find it to be one of my favorite typography styles and have often considered taking up graffiti... under legitimate circumstances of course. :-P I find the use of acute angles in typography to be disturbing yet uniquely attractive. In fact, for a long time I had a phobia of the Twilight Zone sign as a child after watching a Twilight Zone-a-thon on 1/1/1987, the most terrifying episode of which was The Dummy, which gave me nightmares for years following until overcoming that fear and learning as an adult to appreciate the masterful mix of science fiction and horror mixed with its cautionary tales on occasion of ethics and morality.
You may question the phrase, "Mi gato es rojo y verde". It means "my cat is red and green". It was a phrase I used to say when I was first learning Spanish in high school, and I often like to come up with nonsensical phrases in other languages for comical value. Perhaps by now this statement is true, my cat Prissamelia J. Rabbit Ernest lived for 18 years and was a very nice cat, she is missed but she lived a good life. The "J" was debatable as my mother wanted to call her Josephine and I thought Jerrica was a better name. On a deeper level, sometimes I have pondered if this nonsensical statement was a foretelling of the future, as a lesson to lose attachment. I have in fact foretold a few future events in my dreams throughout the years on rare occasions, or perhaps it is my deeper intuition warning me of things I knew would happen. After all, dreams are sometimes said to be the subconscious way of resolving conflicts. I have in my life had a few people accuse me of being able to read minds and control them, this is a misnomer. I am simply aware of a lot of what goes on around me, and listen to the sage wisdom of the elderly.
Finally, the text in the box is a humorous Easter Egg for those who might do an "Inspect Element" in Chrome or Firebug on my Cover Art. A singularity is synonymous with a black hole, implying that if my profile picture were absent that something catastrophic has happened on Facebook from a logic standpoint and since all logic has failed a black hole would be created that would destroy the Earth, which is clearly a logical fallacy but a humorous one I feel. This is indicative of my style of humor, some of which is derived from my prankster nature and some of it derived from early hacker culture from my days of being an Ansi artist in ACiD Productions (Ansi Creators in Demand), for which I am an active member of the Facebook group.
