The U.S.S. Yeager (a Saber class starship) intercepts an incredibly powerful phenomenon moving in on a solar system. It appeared in an instant through a spatial and temporal anomaly and registers power off the Federation scales. It is likely of inter-dimensional origin.
What is it? A being of some kind? A highly advanced "spaceship" of some sort? Or a natural phenomenon?
What is its purpose?
From the pages of his Academy Xenology textbook, Captain Benjamin Barton' recalls the quote attributed to the inter-dimensional being known as Q concerning the nature of the cosmos, delivered to then Captain Picard:
"It's not safe out here! It's wondrous... with treasures to satiate desires both subtle and gross; but it's not for the timid."
That about summed it up.
"Ahead full impulse," he ordered. "Let's see what's in there!"
