At first, Nyu and company were hired by the townspeople of Biyo to get rid of Babel. Babel almost turned all of them into children forever, but Shinichi’s ability to keep her memories allowed her to fight back. Fearing Babel’s fir powers, Shinichi eventually saved Nyu and got her turned back to normal, and then Nyu fought with Babel, eventually causing Babel to transform in a rage. But before she could do much, Shinichi snuck up from behind and ate Babel. Babel freaked out and couldn’t use her fire powers as she was now covered in Shinichi’s bile. But before she could be digested, Nyu made her promise to work alongside Nyu and the others, using her powers to keep them young. She reluctantly agreed, but eventually grew to like the other demigirls. Though she still has a high distrust of Shinichi due to her fear of being eaten.
The reason Babel cannot simply use her powers to keep everyone young, is that every time she uses her age regression powers, she gets younger. If she used them all the time she would eventually become a baby herself. As time passes, she gets older, and thus can erase that time by draining the life from someone else. But if time ever caught up, she would become too young. Every minute she takes from each demigirl, is a several minutes from her own life. With Shinsa’s knowledge of alchemy, she can prolonge the effect, making it so she can take a minute from all the demigirls lives, only a minute would be taken from her. But the potions only have so much affect and eventually Shinsa needs to make more and only can sustain enough ingredients to help the demigirls. The one’s that need it anyway (Shinichi doesn’t age)
Another note is that in order for those affected to get their life back, they need to drink the milk from Babel’s breasts. This can keep Babel’s breasts plump for long periods of time, but milking herself makes her older. Her breasts only get so big, and if they are emptied, one must wait for them to fill back up before drinking more. Shinsa’s potion causes Babel’s breast to produce more milk, thus allowing her to earn some life. She can milk herself and do whatever with the milk, allowing her to keep the others young while not making herself too young. However, Shinsa only does this once every couple of weeks, as she believes too much of the potion can cause adverse affects, like getting too old too fast.
Note: Babel’s part in the story has always bugged me. Some of it I liked, but others I wanted to rewrite entirely, mostly due to causing paradoxes. Thus what you see here may not match with the story, due to the fact, I’ll be rewriting it. Also, in the story I said that the people Babel regresses keep their memories. I took that out too. Instead, they now lose their memories when regressed, which return when they go back to their normal age.
Art Note: So I may end up updating the reference picture at one point, as after doing Babel from the back several times now, I’ve realized her current wing design just DOESN’T work. So I tweaked it around in another pic, a back shot of Babel, so I’ll have redesigned wings for her. The change will be small, but allow it to work.
