"Lesson three - you're not alone
Not since I saw you start breathing on your own
You can leave, you can run, this will still be your home"

"They were... Well," Damin cleared his throat, looking down sadly at the little wolf curled between them on the sunny ledge outside their cave. "You'r father and I were sent out by one of the witches traveling through Mono-mo on her way to the city. She had had a run in with some of the villagers who has stolen some of her charms. She cursed them and later contacted the two of us to go and hunt them down." He watched as Montagar preened softly at Kobu's fur, grooming him and running his teeth through their son's fur.

Kobu's ears were starting to drop despite his father's careful attention."What does this have to do with my parents?" He asked, tilting his head up at the blue drake, his forehead starting to wrinkle with concern.

Montagar kissed his forehead and pulled his wings around them gently. "Let your father finish the story Kobu." The wolf immediately fell silent, resting his head on his paws. They were still big, showing he had a lot of growing to do.

Damin picked right back up where he left off, smiling gently down at the pup. "Anyway, we chased the thieves through the woods and had almost caught them when-" He found himself breaking off as quickly as he had started, looking at his mate. They had talked about telling Kobu this. They had planned it out but he just couldn't find the words.

"We found, you Kobu. The witch had cast a spell on the pregnant mother so that her next born child would be born as a beast. They thought you would distract us and you did. You were the cutest little puppy, we couldn't just leave you in the forest." He nuzzled the teen softly. Kobu sat there with wide eyes, unsure of what he was hearing.

"So I'm," He paused, his voice sounding hallow and shocked. "I'm human? My parents were human? I wasn't born a wolf?"

Damin shook his head, nuzzling Kobu. "Of course not. A wolf could never learn to speak as you do or learn magic as you have. You were human. From the village of Mono-mo. We tried to look for your parents around there afterwards and tried speaking to the witch but she refused to turn you back because of the grudge she held against your parents. We searched the village but we can only assume that your parents fled into another flight's zone."

Kobu looked like he was starting to tear up. "So they just... abandoned me? They were willing to let me die as a distraction?" He asked, his voice shaky.

The dragons looked at each other. They had know how hard this story would be for him. "I'm sorry Kobu," Montagar said softly, leaning down and nuzzling his adopted son. "It wasnt fair of them to do that to you. We are just glad that you are here in our life now and that we have been able to be your parents and raise you into an amazing young man. Whatever you do, never doubt that we love you and will be here for you and that you are our son."

Kobu sat up in his parent's arms, looking down at his paws, the tears nearly overflowing. Damin piped up, "Montagar is right. You are our boy Kobu, no matter what anyone says or anyone thinks. Watching you grow and become the man you are now... Its been an honor for me, son.  We love you, more than anything."

"But my parents... They were thieves!" Kobu wined, tears finally spilling from his eyes and dripping onto Montagar's light blue scales.. "Thats- Thats in my blood Dad! What if I- What if I turn out like them? I-I mean you taught me to work to protect the villages and the people against anyone who might do things like that! I'm... I wasn't even good enough for thieves. My own parents didn't even love me enough to care for me..." He whimpered, raising a paw to hide his eyes.

One of Montagar's paws raised to wipe the tears from Kobu's face and gently pull the paw away. Damin lifted his son's chin to look up at him. "Kobu. Listen to me. You are not a son of thieves and certainly not a thief yourself. You are a son of dragons and a paladin, a protector of this land. You are a good son and a good man. You are so much more than either of your parents were. You are our son and we are proud of you and love you."

Kobu whimpered, looking up at his father before burring his face against his dad's chest, crying overtaking him. He spoke, his voice breaking. "I love you too dad,"

_______

Montagar and Damin were sent out by a witch to hunt down some villagers that had angered her and she had cursed in return. They were closing in on the humans when they threw behind them a small puppy, their cursed human son. The couple got away but the two dragons took the little puppy in raising him as their own and teaching him how to be a paladin as he grew older. Kobu always knew that the two dragons weren't his real parents but when he learned the truth about who his parents really were and how he had been born as a beast and denied his humanity for their mistakes it was really hard on him. He considered running off several times to go and find them. Eventually he came to decide that the ones who took him in and raised him were his true parents, not the ones who birthed him and abandoned him to ensure their own safety.

But anyway, yeah, A'dia is a really weird world. Yes Kobu was BORN as a wolf, too two human parents because of the witch curse. They were fucking horrified and its a large part of why they abandoned him. They didn't want a cursed child.  Also Kobu is big. Like damn. When full grown he was as big as a horse. Hes only a bit smaller than that here. So that shows the size of his fathers. I'm going to make this their full size, considering A'dia dragons used to be way bigger than that in their full dragon forms.

But I love this family. So much. These two gay ass dragons have two other kids but at the time of this event they weren't around yet. Anyway I think I want to tell Kobu's story first.

Ok so the original file was like 94 inches long. Idk what happened, I just kept making the canvas bigger and bigger... Well anyway this is way sized down and beacuse of that a lot of details have been lost but I still really like it.
