Mars, Maiden of Battles. Ruler of the Crimson Panoply of Victory, whose symbols are the Banner, the Gauntlet, the Quiver, the Shield, and the Spear. Her color is red, and her Chosen are known as Heaven's Soldiers and Shieldbearers.

Last of the Five Maidens of Destiny for this series. Original as normal is found here . This is probably the most changed from the original illustration of the Miadens. Mostly I looked at the orignal and I remember not liking the pose and thinking it was probably overly cluttered. For this one I wanted to do soemthing more Spartan, with pretty realistic armor and just what gear I think would fit. In sketching and brainstorming this ended up with me trying the Roman style lorica segmentata and I thought it looked neat. Warpaint, the cloak, and such were also fun ways I thinkt o make her look more intimidating. And went out of the way to make ot less boob armor, but I hope her kind of cuter face, thinner waist and wrists hint enough.

The shield and spear hand some intereesting headaches since making a nice convincing red glow is a bitch and a half. I ended up on this pinkish-white one because I wanted it to still be well, red, and not orange. So will deal with it there I guess. Text on shield says "Survival is fury." Same with the little emblem on her cuirass. And for a bit of extra symbolism, the thing behind her is a lambda in a circle, which was a symbol Spartan soldiers would put on their shields in legend and all that.

Quote right now is a modification of a statement from Kali from Lord of Light by Roger Zelazny, to something I kind of wouldn't be surprsied to see as a proverb in relation to the goddess:

"It is foolish to speak of last great battles, for the last great battle is always the next one,"

- The Proverb of Battles

And stuff.
