Long time no see, people! I've been super lazy with posting stuff here, but this time I figured I'd shape up and upload this thing. It's the first oil painting I've done in over a decade! At one point in my youth I decided that I didn't want to mess with turpentine anymore so I refused to touch oil paints. But now there are water-soluble oil paints available so that's awesomeeeeeee! I painted this at school for one of my art minor courses. We could paint whatever we wanted so I painted a spirit-bird-thing because why not? I think I was thinking about the bird people from Steven Wilson's Harmony Korine -music video when I was sketching.

The name of this painting refers to the old Finnish and Karelian "soul bird", which was a birdlike spirit being that took a person's soul away after death (and possibly brought it during birth). Some people kept wooden bird-figurines next to their beds so that the bird would watch over the person's soul during sleep.

So there we go; proof that I'm still occasionally here.
