Description
Sorry this is so small. I had cropped the original pencil drawing from a much larger piece. I was planning on adding it onto something else, so I shrunk it sommore, then got carried away, so I cropped it off by itself again and then realized when I was doing the details that it was a way to dang small. Moiduh! lol Oh well. There it is. If you know of anyway to make pictures bigger without killing the quality, then please let me know.[edit] Uploaded a bigger version. still blurry though, but that's okay. Better than before.
Original Character created by Craig Bartlett.

That's super neat. I love the realism you gave to Helga's look and especially how you modeled her guarded yet interested expression as she spies on Arnold from afar.
You've really ramped up the skill since your first realistic Helga . The style, pose and layout are terrific, though I'm having a bit of trouble "doping out" exactly how the lighting is done. (I'm guessing that the bright lines are on the wall, but without reference angles it's a little hard to figure out how she and it are oriented towards partially-open blinds. But since the idea wasn't to put in a lot of background detail then I'm not complaining.) Her left hand looks a bit weird, perhaps as an accident of the lighting, but it seems like her index finger is very separated from both her thumb and Nickelodeon-waving finger. Again, it's minor considering the level of detail.
However, the pen and pencil look nearly as amazing as Helga's face and hair.

Thanks
Well, you're right about the background, it's not suppose to be very detailed. actually, the white lines behind her are suppose to represent the light shining through the window, but I didn't do the window shades and all that. Like I said haha, not very detailed
Yeah her fingers are bit weird, I had originally drew it on paper and I didn't feel like fixing/redrawing it after I scanned it Xp
Thank you for your critique!

The light from the blinds looks so awesome!! How do you do this? How do you paint such digital beauty?
Are there any tips you could give me about digital painting? I can't really color anything digitally. -_- Now that I have Illustrator I can scan pics I've drawn by hand and then use the lovely pen tool to trace over them and they look ok but I can't color them! What program(s) do you use? Do you have a tablet?
Sorry for all the questions! Love your gallery and your art!

Thank you
Nah, you're good. I love helping! Questions are welcome!
Well, I'm still trying to figure it all out myself, but the best advice I could give you would be to study other digital painters' work. Like this guy --> His rendering skillz are absolutely amazing. As far as Illustrator goes haha, maybe you could teach me a thing or two I don't know jack about inkin' stuff in Illustrator! Wish I did though. I mostly just use Photoshop. I know how to ink and color in Photoshop, but I think it's better in Illustrator, from what I've heard. In Photoshop, I know that you can use layers to easily to color and ink, but I don't really know if it's the same in Illustrator. If you wanna know how to do it in Photoshop, then I could certainly learn you a thing or two
Yes, I have a tablet. The best investment I've ever made! I don't know if you have one or not, but it certainly makes things a lot easier, especially if you want to paint digitally. A lot of people tend to go all out on the tablets, like getting the ginormous ones. I think I got the smallest one available, mostly because Imma cheap-wad Xp but when you think about it, after you install it, it fits to the size of your screen, so you really don't need a big one. But hey, some people just like the extra room.
Did I answer your questions? If you have any more don't be afraid to ask

First of all, his gallery is amazing! Wow his work is just soooo awesome!
I have an easy(ish) time drawing (or tracing over an uploaded image of something drawn by hand) in Illustrator because it's vector and comes out really clean. But my attempts at inking in Illustrator are superfail -_-. I have inked one or two things in Photoshop (here:[link] and here:[link] ) I can't succeed with shadows, everything is very very flat.
I really want to get a tablet, but I am working 3 jobs just to get enough money to afford tuition next semester. Hopefully I can get one soon because drawing on a keypad is like fingerpainting. lol But drawing with a mouse is like drawing with a potato!

Gah! this stinkin' new layout they got here on deviantart is preventing me from viewing your links! It's blank! Which folder is it in, in your gallery?
Haha, been there, done that with the whole mouse thing. Sooo annoying! Wow, that whole tuition thing really sucks I'm sorry. but hey don't fret. you can find some pretty cheap tablets. My tablet only cost me about 50-60bucks at Staples. And I don't think they were on sale. I mean I know that doesn't sound THAT cheap, but when the average ones can run up to $300, I'd say that's a steal. Actually, I think that's about 20bucks less than the price of a box of those professional Prismacolor markers!

One of them is a little drawing of Jareth on a sketchdump titled, well Jareth. The second one is in the folder called 'Wonderland' and the piece is 'Alice in her Tea Room'.
This new layout confuses the foshizzle outta me lol. That really isn't that bad! I will have to start searching, I really want to get one before I get back to school. Thanks! Prismacolors are sooo expensive O.o I've never used them because they're so pricey but I hear they're great.

Well, i recently bought some from Staples for a more reasonable price (the box had been opened... yeah I'm that cheap ) and I have to be honest, they'r kinda like sharpies actually. I think the blendy marker (which wasn't included) is the thing that makes them really valuable.

Oooohhh I see. I have these brush tip markers that I think are for scrapbooking but I use them and they blend pretty well. I also use sharpies but I'm mostly a watercolor-pencils kinda girl. Thanks so much for all your tips!!

Your style is one of my absolute favorites. I usually shy away from realistic interpretations, but you've really grasped her character. The best parts of your drawings are her expressions - perfect! Keep up the good work.

Fantastic!
is right. If you're using photoshop or a program like it just open the image, go to Image-> Image Size and then there should be a place where you can change the Resolution and up it to 700 or 900. Then save. But the file size will be huge.

Just do the whole pic so big you can add details without making it look weird. This way when you zoom out it wll look big and detailed. The only con is that it's going to be a little bit heavy file. What is she looking at?

Probably Arnold, but Jose-Ramiro suggested that Brainy was behind her by the look on her face, and I kinda like that one. I should so put him back there.
