Description
gift art for the suman is a sweet soft chewey stick dish from the philippines. it's essentially made from glutinous rice, wrapped in leaves (the variations depend on which leaves are used), and steamed. they're about 6 or so inches in length (and not as big as those in the image). they're normally served topped with sugar and coconut snow, or a sweet white sauce made from coconut milk. i guess the sauce is in the bottle thing on her head. she's depicted flying in a bilao, a winnowing tray. this mode of flight's attributed to several shaman groups here (none of which i can identify at the moment). i read somewhere that some african witches were also belived to use winnowing trays and baskets as magical flying vehicles. probly has something to do with convergent anthropological schiz. or something. anyway, more attempts at christmas-y stuff.also, check out 's gallery. he has a christmas suman deviation which inspired me to make this one.
(the title's inspired by the username of a livejournal friend, whose nick is Celestialsiomai.
