I love the contrast of the perfectly circular and smooth light to the angular, chaotic and grungy background!
I assume the pole that's visible dead center below the light is the stand from which you swung the light. If you had moved it just a little to the left so that it blends with the shadow in the background, it would have improved the illusion of a floating ball of light.

It actually just takes patience to swing a light around in a circle as to paint the air with light. The camera would be on a slow shutter speed and will record all of this information onto a photograph. It's quite fascinating and surprisingly easy to do

Well, for such a perfect circle it's not enough just to swing a light around.
You need to tie the light to a pole so it always swings around one point without deviating from the same distance.
Also you have to spin around in a circle holding the pole while the light is swinging.

Well yes, I probably should've put that information in there. You have to constantly move about to prevent yourself from appearing in the photograph.
I recently studied this technique (actually last week) in my university photography class, and I got some pretty perfect spheres by attaching the light to a piece of string and swing it around without a pole. Though some other students used it, I think the effect can be achieved either way.

I get the general process for this sort of thing, but how'd ya DO this?! What in the world was your shutter speed and how'd you get it so perfect?
