Ryou and Machi. Past and present. Long story short, Ryou left his village for his job related to the law enforcement and Machi who stayed in the village got attacked by mutants later on. Ryou aware and devastated by the tragedy when he came back but doesn't know Machi is still alive... well basically "reborn" as a cyber mutant without any past memories. She still remembers her own hobby and power though.

They'll meet again in a bad way.
